Royce 59 Overrated?

[smiley] I'm prepared to read plenty of hate on this. I like Royce, I got a few of his cd's, but is he overrated? I know on the internet, he walks that perfect line of being not mainstream enough to get automatic hate, and underground enough to where it's still enough room on the "bandwagon". Agree? Disagree?

Why? I disagree with you. Actually, I think for all the songs that have come out so far... it's not a bad argument to say he's been the worst. (Not worst in the sense he's wack, just worst of the 4).

"Royce" and "overrated" should not be in the same sentence unless "is not" is in-between the two. So long as the Build & Destroy collection exists, he can never be overrated. That dude has put in his work for over 10 years, is arguably one of the few guys who could go toe-to-toe with Eminem (when Em was in his prime no less) on the same records, and even to this day still spits with that crazy hunger and tenacity in his tone. You can hear it. Not only that, but even with the change in his lyrical style, it still !!s on over 90% of emcees period. Plus, you've never heard a more complex rhyme scheme executed so well.

Royce deserves every bit of praise he's gotten online. He sure as !! doesn't get it in the mainstream, so let him get his shine here. No way could he be overrated, ever.

Stop being a d**k rider. It's cool to like Royce, and to think he's not overrated or what not, but get his nuts out of your mouth, damn. Royce ain't your friend, he don't stick up for you like that.

And yes, to the people who said D&R was dope, it was. I bought that !!. My only point is, there are things about Royce that make him overrated. His delivery is not that nice, and his punch lines aren't fantastic either. I'm not going to say he's a great story teller either. He's dope though. Top tier emcee, but BX loves an underdog. Gotta remember that when discussing rappers here.
