| Our Favorite 2pac Interviews |
![]() We were watching some 2pac videos the other day and got sidetracked after we watched one of his interviews on Arsenio Hall, then got lost watching plenty of other interviews from ‘Pac. His rawness and honesty was always something we admired growing up and couldn’t quite understand until we actually grew up. Going back and watching some of these interviews feels different than it did at 11 years old, or even when we were in high school. Like he said himself, he wears his heart and feelings on his sleeve and it’s probably the main reason why he was always so interesting to hear him speak. Interviewers were always amazed upon meeting him. Whatever you may think of him, one thing you couldn’t deny was his realness. We picked some of our favorite interviews where he bared all his emotion, beliefs and opinions with different people. Rest in peace 2pac.
The Lost Prison Tapes This Clinton Correctional Facility interview, doesn’t find 2pac talking about his trial or why he was in jail —it actually represents the inner him and what he stood for. In this 45-minute sit-down, 2pac speaks on gang life out in the streets and his concept of prisons, as well as his relationship with his mother. Classic footage and a must watch for all 2pac fans.
Post Jail Interview After doing his stint in jail, Tabitha Sorens hit Venice Beach with 2pac for his first post-jail interview. She asked him some of the same questions he was used to hearing (see: the T.H.U.G. Life mentality, growing up with a crack-addicted mother), but he does encourage and lets his fans know that it’s not cool to go to jail and emphasizes the message to folks that they should remain humble as they go about their life. Interestingly enough, he also lets her preview some of what became All Eyez On Me, playing selected cuts like “2 of Amerikkas Most Wanted” and “Life Goes On.”
MTV Interview With Snoop Dogg Days before he was tragically murked, 2pac sat down with MTV for his final interview with them —alongside Snoop— after the 1996 Video Music Awards. This was at the height of the East Coast/West Coast beef but the most notable part of the interview is watching Snoop’s facial expression when ‘Pac was talking about the manufactured beef through the media.
17 year old interview It is absolutely amazing to watch 2pac before the Thug image and the gangsta persona. A very wise and positive 17-year old ‘Pac, live and direct from Baltimore. So humble. This undoubtedly is one of his Top 3 interviews he ever did.
Rare VIBE Interview 2pac never held his tongue for anything and it couldn’t be any more apparent in this lost VIBE Magazine interview. He’s got plenty of quotables in this, and they all extend from questions about the East Coast/West Coast beef. Talk about being pissed off. He clearly states that he’s not the same 2pac that he once was. He’s transformed.
The Definition Of Thug Life For those who aren’t too familiar with T.H.U.G. Life actually meant, 2pac explore the meaning of the term and says the phrase is actually meant to resonate with kids that grew up in the gutter and under certain circumstances, He hopes his words reach those people who can connect to what he talks about, and in turn, teach them through his music. He acknowledges he’s not perfect, too.
Ed Gordon Interview In this 1994 Ed Gordon interview, 2pac talked about how much he helps the community even after all his legal woes and image of being a “thug.” Ed was quite surprised upon meeting him, considering he was a lot different than what the media portrayed of him. He also goes in depth about bearing arms and criticism from Reverend Jesse Jackson, and says he’s only protecting himself from the streets. Towards the end of the interview, he also goes into a rant about his sodomy allegation. He didn’t sound too happy.
Words Of Wisdom 2pac’s track set to feature on A Very Special Christmas Vol. 2, an album set to help the Special Olympics, never made the cut because of his trouble with the law. He also recorded this interview with MTV (his first), and talked about some Christmas memories, but the interview never aired because of the same reason his track didn’t make the cut for the album. Even though he only spoke on Christmas, he goes pretty deep about growing up as a childhood without it, then tried to argue about how people can have mansions with so many rooms —yet people are homeless. Or how people can throw away food, when someone is out there starving. Pretty powerful, and a shame that this never aired.
Spiritual Beliefs If you’ve ever wondered what 2pac’s beliefs were, this interview will clear all that up. He doesn’t quite believe in the Bible or religion, but he compared himself to what Jesus went through —because a lot of the stuff that happened in the Bible, happens in the hood every day. Heaven to him, is sleeping with peace at night and God will bless you if you hustle. He believes in God, just doesn’t believe in the religion aspect.
Est@blishing [rip] Row East Only 12 days before he was tragically murked in Las Vegas, 2pac was out with Suge Knight preaching the [rip] Row gospel. He was starting [rip] Row East, a label which would directly compete with Bad Boy and Nas and as he put it, “would overthrow the current government [of music].”
Arsenio Hall Interview For Poetic Justice ‘Pac was on Arsenio Hall a couple times but this interview took place when he was promoting Poetic Justice. He talked about what it was like to kiss Janet Jackson, his trouble with the Oakland police department, the perception of rappers talking about smoking weed, and a lot more. Anti-violence, pro blunt.
