Look son I love my city but n*gga just stop it. No

If we talkin 1997-2003 yes but we been off for a minute. Not to mention our biggest rapper barley acknowledges his city and doesn't have a bit of New Orleans in him .

Now baby is a true uptown n*gga

Outkast have sold so many records ive lost count and went diamond. Ludacris has sold a good amount of records and i could say the same for Jeezy and TIP,but i dont know tho, good thread. Master P had different artist dropping albums just about every month.Wayne sold a mill for C3 in the first week.

Every city is about even down here. New Orleans does have a richer music history outside of hip hop though. Jazz, funk, and R&B in general can trace origins there.

Disagree w/ the thread but let's put it like this

1. New Orleans has the richest musical background out of all southern cities and has an impressive rap history. As far as rap music scene they def. deserve to be held as one of the best cities period to influence music in general.

2. Atlanta clearly is the music capitol of the south and now one of the biggest music scenes in the country. Notice I said capitol because they capitalized off of hip-hop music more then any southern city. Dungeon Family helped influence alot of musical acts but their style was more global then regional. I can't say Atlanta had the biggest influence cuz Atlanta is more like a melting pot of influences from other southern cities/areas.

3. Houston the father and innovator of southern city music scene. Houston is probably the most underrated yet copied southern city in the nation. Houston is like the Bay of the south. A innovative and creative city full of trends yet doesn't capitalize off of like everybody else does outside of Houston. Houston moves it at it's own speed and always 5 or 10 steps of everybody else atleast when it comes to setting trends. Pimp C(even tho he from Port Arthur) said Ratchet back in the early 90's. So I'd say Houston is the most influential city in the south.

4. Memphis would probably be the 2nd most influential city in the south or pretty damn close to Houston in terms of influence. It too also has a rich musical history. It's just right now Memphis music scene isn't as popping as the other southern cities. We all know bucking help influence "crunk" music

Jazz can of course since New Orleans is the birthplace. But Funk and R&B derived from blues and a mixture of other styles can be traced back to Mississippi, Memphis, and East Texas.

"A great deal of funk is rhythmically based on a two-celled onbeat/offbeat structure, which originated in sub-Saharan African music traditions. New Orleans appropriated the bifurcated structure from the Afro-Cuban mambo and conga in the late 1940s, and made it its own. New Orleans funk, as it was called, gained international acclaim largely because James Brown's rhythm section used it to great effect."

I will say that New Orleans has an impressive roster for being significantly smaller than other major cities. The metro's population is a little over 1 mil but the actual city is like 400,000.
