Intelligent thread, zomg do not enter if u = dumb dumb

Do you believe rap is a gift, or something you can just work at, or both?

I mean I feel some niccas is born with a natural cadence, and some rappers TRYYYY to learn how to rap and sound awful flow wise.

Like i would memorize a song at 8 years old after listening like 3 times n mo!!as would be like how u do that, i'd be like [pic]

Or like keef is a young nicca that can probably mash out 100 songs in an hour.

Me personally I feel like, Talent + Hardwork = Success in whatever you want to do.

I just don't appreciate niccas that try to work at something when you just don't have it.

rap is both a gift, AND something you can become good at with practice and dedication.

Keef is one of those guys who can naturally find the right cadence on any track, this is a quality that even some "good rappers" lack, and it has a LOT to do with mathematics. music is mathematics, and if you can find patterns in the music that you're able to rhythmically make compliment the music, it can be expressed in a beautiful mathematical formula.

I have mad respect to those artists who are able to naturally "connect" to music and enhance it with counter rhythms, melodies etc, all in realtime (on the spot), even if they don't necessarily have a broad enough vocabulary to reach realms of storytelling that others are capable of.

the universe was created using mathematics. a bowling ball, an airplane, and a pencil will all drop from the sky at an acceleration of 9.8 m/s and all hit the ground at the same time regardless of size or weight.

pa#sion and love is also a great factor in this, which is why we talk about "real" rappers who lived "real" lives and we know they "real", because we can just feel it coming from deep down.

its not something to describe if you know it, you know it.

what pisses me the !! off are idiots who don't actually understand or know what music is and think u can sit with a pad and pen, tell a great story and thats it.

this is a vid I always refer to when explaining my viewpoint. listen to fam explain WHY he likes the beat in comparison to the one that was played before it. Soon as he was asked to freestyle, (obviously something he wasn't expecting judging by his reaction) after the initial shock he began to vibe out to the beat, the subtle act of head nodding acts as a physical metronome, so he basically syncs himself to the tempo, next he uses his signature (bang......bang bang) as a reference point setting the particular pattern he wants to go with, note how his adlibs are perfectly synced to the beat before he begins to freestyle.

Mind you, this is a track that he's only heard for a few minutes prior to being asked to freestyle over.

taskforce all day lmao, but honestly Lil B helped me through a tough time in my life because I was one of the intelligent guys that hides my intelligence so I don't alienate the people around me, I first saw Lil B, and the thing I respected more was the fact that he didn't give a !! about all the backlash that he KNEW he was gonna receive from posting those wild a#s vids and songs. I respected that and started to reinforce that way of thinking in my own life, now I'm mentally free, and couldn't give a !! what a nicca say.

but I'm here seeking knowledge and we have a LOT of intelligent people here scared to actually be intelligent so they troll instead, but I digress..

shoutout to thought provoking threads [pic]

its pretty self explanatory..

Keef
soulja boy
lil b
waka flocka
ect.

Are what I consider "rappers".. they pretty much usin basic patterns to ride the track and pretty much get carried by their beats.

Cole
Lupe
Krit
Slaughterhouse
Saigon
ect.

Emcees.. that not only put time into developing their craft.. but put their heart into what they sayin...

Anyone can do what soulja and them do.... but not everyone has the brain to come up wit the !! cole, lupe does... it's just how their mind works.

Thats what seperates rappers and emcees.. at least thats how I see it

Rapping isn't a gift. I think all good rappers are good rappers because of their influences. If you're someone who grew up and someone like Pun influenced you to rap then you're gonna have higher standards for your bars than someone who was influenced by Nelly.

I think it's as simple as that. Anyone can rap, how good you get is how high you set your standards on what you deem quality, all coming back to who influences you.

And who influenced pun to rap the way he did??

That wasnt a gift?

Pac was raised around black panthers.. not rappers..

Oh my bad he was tourin wit digital underground.. So if what your saying is right then he should of been rappin like shock g...no?

You sayin the way he could put his thoughts together and deliver em wit pa#sion like he did wasnt a gift?

Really? LOL

Some learn, some just have " it ". Even if you have it you still have to hone your craft.

the Craft is most important of all.

but i just love the people who got it already and get hated on...i mean some of em are gettin money but if they're rapping about what's true to them, theres no reason to really hate on them.

as long as you can relate, if you don't, why hate?

but that intelligence !! is a spectrum which is very very very large and hits on all corners and bends.

The toughest part about rapping is the initial awkward stage in recording when you're getting used to your voice. There were a couple of guys I know that were pretty good at rap but horrible at recording. They'd freeze up every time they'd get in the studio.

Then how do you explain someone like Waka Flocka

Waka Flocka grew up in new york and listened to a lot of great rappers like dmx, Jay-z, pac, nwa, big daddy kane, and nas
