That money doesn't go straight to Birdman. You got Birdman at the top of CM, but even higher is the owners of Universal. Who are owned by some frenchmen in the name of Vivendi.

that revenue is typical of most big record companies, but many even at the universal level, won't see a majority of it.

If a CM record went platinum at 10 a cd(and that is low for back in 02), that 10M for that CD it generated. That don't include concerts, etc. But then the spending on these things cost money(usually more than what a CD will bring in), so you got those at the top(Vivendi), putting up money, Universal seeing a large part, CM(Birdman/Slim) seeing a bit, and the artist getting[..]d, by the time they get their money, it's small because the chain of how far up it goes is big.
