the way it goes on the label is if you're an artist and you're working on an album they'll make you put out a street single, if you don't chart at least Top 50 you won't get released, they'll make you go back to the drawing board and try again, sometimes they'll test the water and try to put out another street single but if that's a flop too than the contract is null and void and you are SOL as an artist

and this is all in the contracts, all of their album releases are contingent on successful singles, if you chart your single, your album drops and it flops ? you'll get dropped with the quickness and they will still want their advance back, which is why you hear alot of these former artists that barely saw the light of day !!ing about money and getting screwed, cause they DIDN'T READ THEIR CONTRACTS
