Max Wymer, a young Pittsburgh boy with Cerebral Palsy, was forcibly removed from a public pool for wearing water wings earlier this month.
Max’s mother Lisa tried reasoning with the lifeguards at the pool when they asked her to remove the floaties, but they simply stared at her and stated “rules are rules.”
A spokesperson for the public pool has stated that floatation devices are banned because they provide a “false sense of security.”
After Lisa refused to take the water wings off of Max, they were both escorted out of the pool by the police.
According to WPXI, the Allegheny County website now states that flotation devices are still prohibited for all patrons except those with disabilities.

never heard that before

they provide a false sense of security because a child can still drown very easily with them on. they basically keep your arms floating but your face can still fall straight down in the water. In the late 70s early 80s when i was coming up this wasnt a problem cuz mom had nothing else to do but read a Dannielle Steel novel and watch you like a hawk so she could find a reason to beat your[..] but now they got cell phones and the internet so nobody pays attention to their kids anymore and when their dumba#s does some stupid !! and gets k#lled they will blame everybody else. Of course in this example its a pool so they actually DO have people to watch and help (lifeguards) so they would kind of be liable but im talking more like the guy who got shot at batman suing Warner Bros

and im not saying that guy did something stupid i was just using that as an example of misplaced blame.

for real i almost drowned when i was like 3 because my water wings broke.

good thing my old man was a life guard growing up.

but this, this here, is ridiculous. unless he was in there by himself, which i doubt because usually people with disabilities have a worker beside them at all times in the pool.

Lifeguard got fired recently for saving some out out of his jurisdiction. Why risk your job to break the rules for this kid? Buy him a kiddie pool for 20 bucks if he wants to swim. This lady basically thinks she can do whatever she wants because her kid is retarded. It sucks he's a retard but it doesn't mean his mom can do whatever she wants.

I'm talkin the shallow shallow end, that zero depth. I'm not as insensitive as you all seem to think I am. I am just being real. They have a rule in place for a reason, as stated above. They asked her to follow that rule. She didn't so they kicked her[..] out. All she had to do was take them off and help her child while he was in the water, and they could have went on with their day in the pool. BUT since her child has a handicap she wanted to argue it and when she found out that wouldn't work she kept up her argument until she was escorted out. Whether it was a child with a disability, a fat kid, black kid, white kid, etc.....they all would have been asked to do the same. I feel for her kid in this situation now that it is being blown out of proportion as damn near a hate crime.
