Not necessarily, I started with game boy color because i wasn't allowed to have any kind of system and i built up the courage, snuck and used my emergency money to buy GBC and pokemon blue. I remember borrowing my boy's regular gameboy and my mom got so pissed...that's when i fell in love with megaman...
