it was more like 4.5 solid hours.. still.. really stressful and you need careful planning.. tons of !! went wrong too and we literally werent ready to show the video until a minute before showtime

man this !! is real hot. i shot my first wedding a week ago for a friend. ive never shot or edited a wedding up until that point so ive been looking at wedding vids to get an idea. give this man props.

Excellent job. I just got the Panasonic GH2 and this is the kind of stuff that I want to eventually start getting into. What editing software do you use and how long did it take you to learn it?

god damn computers so unreliable

We use Final Cut Pro and used a Canon 5d Mk II, Canon 7D, and a Canon T2i. We have to convert all the footage throughout the day into ProRes422 since the cameras capture in h264. This is a pain in the[..] and we could bypass this process completely if we used another editing program like Premiere Pro but we're comfortable with FCP.

We only started using DSLR cameras last summer. Learning FCP has been an on and off thing for about 2-3 years. I'm not an expert at FCP but I know how to get the edits done and just enough effects to give it that "cool" factor.

If you have some money to invest in a DSLR and 1-2 lenses you can do wedding videos on the side for some good side money. You meet a ton of people and gigs will come after your first client (I did my first few for free and got referred paying customers). That went from 0 dollars to 500 dollars to now currently anywhere from 2500-3000 per gig. From the video you just watched we got a potential client wanting to fly me and my crew out to Hawaii all expenses paid for her wedding [pic]

It's really simple.. get the proper tools, put in the time and work to get better and keep at it. But keep in mind I said tools - anyone can own a paintbrush but not everyone will know how to paint with it. DSLR's are dirt cheap for what they can accomplish - there's other elements like storytelling and composition that make you stand out from the next guy with a nice camera. But those skills only come from experience.

could you do a concert with the same concept?

conceptually if you mean shot then edited then played later on in the day i dont see why not. for concerts i'd imagine at least 4-5 multi camera setup with a direct audio feed to sync the files up. i'd imagine it would be WAY easier to edit than a wedding believe it or not..

we covered a live band earlier this year with one camera and nothing more than a monopod. we didn't have a direct feed of the audio so we just used their studio song over their performance (hence why the instruments and voices aren't synced)
