| May 8 - Is Teen Marijuana Use on the Rise? |
| Is Teen Marijuana Use on the Rise? « Hydroponics Supplies ![]() A recent study has shown that there is a peak rise in use of medical marijuana among teens. It says that nearly 1 out of 10 teenagers lighting up more than 20 times every month. A report from The Partnership at Drugfree.org presents the mindset of parents who are extremely scared about drugs like cocaine and heroine but they are unwilling to talk about medical marijuana and other types of prescription drugs that their teenager kids are more likely to get addicted. They think that the weed is “no biggie”. The 23rd Annual Partnership Attitude Tracking Study has also revealed their reports mentioning rapid increase in marijuana use and decline in cigarette smoking as compared to the former. It has been found that nearly 20 percent of North Carolina High School students are using medical marijuana at least once in the past month and lifetime use of the drug is almost 40 percent. Half of Hispanic teens report they have used marijuana in the past year versus 40 percent for African Americans and 35 percent for Caucasians. The fact that teens are tremendously getting addicted to marijuana since the past few years and it has also been proved by the case studies submitted by the University of Michigan. The study has also found out that there is a close[..]ociation between teens who smoke pot regularly and prescriptive drug addicts. It is also a peer habit that develops from seeing their friends enjoying the pot gloriously. The Marijuana Policy Project considers that marijuana use among teens can be curtailed only if smoking pot is legalized exclusively for adults. Spokesman of Marijuana Policy Project believes that, if the business of medical marijuana is completely ousted from the hands of criminals and transferred to responsible business people, who would honestly check the IDs of customers and ensure not to sell it to minors, then probably the number of teens falling prey to it can be minimized. Marijuana laws can be enforced to license its use and specify the legally permissible age limit, along with some regulatory restrictions. It’s also important for parents to get involved in this issue and make their children aware of the health hazards of smoking pots so frequently. As teen drug use takes a turn for the worse, a heavier burden is placed on the shoulders of parents to play a more active role in protecting their kids from the health risks posed by marijuana smoking. |

| Im all for the legalization of weed and i see no harm from consuming it in moderation but i do see a problem with kids who burn all day. Their minds are still developing and having that constantly in your system cant be good for you, hence the "burnouts" we all knew in high school. | |

| Who the !! is addicted to marijuana anyway? We smoke it because we enjoy it, not because we physically need it. Using this logic then I guess you could say I am "addicted" to beef jerky, fla-vor-ice, popcorn and my morning coffee too [pic] | |

| use of "medical marijuana" among teens? The !!? Ain't nothing medical about it, unless you are a teen with glaucoma or going through chemo. Who cares though? | |

and speaking strictly in terms of psychological addiction, it can definitely be argued that fast food is more addictive. Part of its appeal is how cheap it is, but I'm pretty sure I'm addicted. Even when I don't enjoy it, that next time I cruise by the drive-through, its tough to not pull in and spend 4 bucks on a meal. Saying Marijuana is addictive trivializes what true addiction is.

I've had friends/roomates who smoked several times a day, everyday, and were extremely industrious, energetic, clean individuals, a couple were borderline OCD. It just all depends on your individual personality and psyche, stereotyping daily weed smokers as "burnouts" is somewhat ignorant. However these productive indiduals I refer to were 18+ years old usually, I don't encourage blazing for young kids, although I started at 15 and am no worse off for it. I'm more worried about my history with alcohol. Last edited by Bob Sacamano; 05-08-2012 at 03:28 PM..

| Drug use overall has dropped steadily after the 1970s. Although marijuana has seen a rise in recent years. | |

| the problem with all these weed stats is, as a teen, some nicca comes up to u and asks 'do u smoke weed?'..how many are really gonna tell the truth and say yes? now consider that back in the day wen weed was even more of an 'evil'..way more people who used prolly said 'no' its more or less jus kids giving a !! less these days and are able to actually give the honest answer of 'yes' teens smoked it then, teens smoke it now, i bet there isnt even that much of a difference | |

| I smoked it at 15-16 and been smoking for 9 years now. At first it was an every other day if not every day thing. Past 2 years I changed to once a week or once every 2 weeks if even that. I have no problem with weed or if people smoke it. Only problem I have is when you smoke too much and become a lazy slow in the head !!. I know a bunch of people who are productive when high, but also a bunch of lazy !!s who never do !! but smoke and eat. I quit weed for 6 months once and it was probably the greatest 6 months. My mind was fresh, got my energy back, more focused on my !!. | |
