On Tuesday, our country lost a television legend when Sherman Hemsley, also known as the always boisterous George Jefferson of the 1970s show “The Jeffersons,” passed away. Not only did George give our nation a lot of laughs, his story — and the entire premise of the hit show — is reflective of the key political debate in our country today: Who should take credit for success, government or individuals?

For the Jeffersons, it was the latter. The show was based on the aspirational concept of “movin’ on up,” after its famous theme song. George and his wife Louise (Weezie), were a New York couple who had made it from middle-class Queens to the affluent upper East Side.

George was an entrepreneur who made a name for himself through his chain of dry cleaners. In other words, he lived the American Dream. For the Jeffersons, the idea of a “deluxe apartment in the sky” was the goal — not handouts, food stamps or subsidies. Nowhere in the show was there talk of movin’ on down.

Wonder what President Obama thinks of George’s success? I am fairly certain he told us with his recent (and infamous) comments on business:

“If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.”

Under that logic, it was the roads that got George to the East Side, not capitalism.

Mitt Romney called the comment “foreign to the American experience,” while Obama shot back that his Republican challenger was “knowingly twisting my words around to suggest that I don’t value small businesses.”

But his record speaks for itself. Contrary to pledges he would unite the country, the President has spent much of his time in the White House railing against the business community — the George Jeffersons of the world — and turning success into something of a dirty word while accusing business owners, in the recent comments, of having little to do with their own accomplishments.

An honest look at his policies shows that he is hostile to entrepreneurs, small businesses and job creators, constantly pushing to raise their taxes and slap them with mounting regulations.

If George were a real person, Obama would be trying to tax him even more than the huge chunk of his income he already pays. (Remember, George lives in New York City, so he’s already burdened beyond belief with federal, state and city taxes.) That means less money to afford such luxuries as his housekeeper, Florence.

And under Obamacare, George would be required to provide his employees (if he had 50 or more of them) with health care, or else face stiff fines of up to $2,000 an employee along with a mountain of other new Obamacare regulations. That would likely mean higher prices for his customers. If George had fewer than 50 employees, he would have no incentive to expand or hire.

If George wanted to leave his business to his son, Lionel, the latter would likely pay an astounding amount in inheritance taxes to the tax-gobbling government.

Bottom line: Under Obama, it’s not easy to be (or stay) successful.

In fact, George would identify more with Romney than with Obama. In one episode of “The Jeffersons,” George decides he wants to buy a piano. “Why bother to buy a piano? Just hang up a framed picture of your bank balance!” Weezie urges. “No, that would be showing off,” George jokes.

You see, there is no shame in hard work and success. George Jefferson never apologized for his, and neither should we. It’s called movin’ on up.

What the article fails to mention, is this contrived culture of :handouts: primarily exist in great numbers today because the hard working people who were doing the right thing by working 9 to 5 had jobs that were out sourced. Their homes they put their money into was lost to inflated mortgage APR that skyrocketed to to impossible rates 5 years ago. Their children they were paying college for are not being able to even graduate because the families just dont have the money to afford it any longer.

No business was built by one man....he needs employees, without those employees the business could not prosper so yes, EVERYONE contributes to success of that business from the top to the bottom.

So what is there to say about the Americans who put all they had into the American dream, they worked hard every day, were finacially responsible who lost everything do to big business? Lets not forget who got us in this mess. But we are supposed to believe that the Rich are the victims. The ones who refuse to pay taxes? Who are currently outsourcing jobs as we speak to other countries to save pennies on the dollar, Who have lobbied our politicans to never raise their taxes ever........these are the people who are the victims.

What about a war on the poor.........in all this bull!! that has happened in the last 3 years who has been affected the most? Who has to pay the most dues for this countries woes? Who has had more restrictions placed on them and stricter tax law and code put on their backs? But its the rich again who are the victims.....................come on this is bull!!.......How you can !! about the country's deficit when you refuse to put Americans to work......and then to avoid paying taxes put your money outside of the country never putting one thin red cent back into it.......!! THE RICH......and !! this !! with her bull!![..] comparison...........its not class warfare at all......its one demographic is really suffering trying to get by who would k!ll for a job.............and another demographic who have more then what they need but to selfish to help their fellow Americans out.......not a handout just a means to make a living by expanding business and hiring again.
