Is U.S. Committing Superpower [rip] Against China?

While there has been growing concern that the United States is slowly losing ground as the world's dominant Superpower, Robert Kagan, author of the new book, The World America Made, believes it's all in our head.
"I think that the basic measures of power indicate that the United States really is just as strong as it's ever been," says Kagan, "People have talked themselves into this notion that we no longer have the capacity to play the role we've been playing."
But as the United States begins to pull troops out of Afghanistan, after already pulling out of Iraq, there are questions as to whether America has the resources to[..]ert its power in future conflicts, including the brewing situation with Iran.
"I don't think it's a question of whether we can afford it," says Kagan "we certainly have that capability,"
Kagan doesn't deny that countries like China, whose international power is clearly growing, are a threat to America. Rather, his point is that the threat is nothing new. "We tend to sort of fantasize about the past, a past when the United States was allegedly able to do whatever it wants whenever it wanted to, and that past never existed."

In about 30-40 years when China is ready they are gonna try to invade us. I guarantee you.

if they are caught up to the size of our military and development maybe, i don't think a lot of people really understand how much money we invest in military technologies. These countries are trying to build b0mbs that we made in the 40's and can't get it done. We are way past where these dudes are trying to get.

Troops are no longer necessary compared to back in the day. US has advanced so far in technology so troop numbers will eventually cut down.

Well first they'll have to build a navy that's capable of projecting a huge number of troops across the world in a very, very short amount of time.

But really, it'd be impossible. You can't invade the U.S. Not possible. Our country is huge, and across its land is a myriad of different climates and geography which serves as a logistical nightmare for an invading force. Also, our defense budget is ten times any other country's, and we have the most heavily armed and armored populace on the face of the planet by a LOOOOOONG shot.

What makes our military what it is, is the amount of money we have dumped into resources and assets. I think there's enough patriotic fervor in this country, where if the fight is right, people will sign up by the truckload if !! were to ever really hit the fan.

Whos to say that generation(30-40 years from now) will want anything to do with the prior generations ideals..Imagine or think how we viewed beliefs from 30-40 years ago in the present. N.W.O.

what u dont understand america will never be brought down by anybody without taking the world/earth with it

if theres an attack like that america full nuke arsenal would be unleashed.

its not a smart move to do that. invade USA [pic]

chinas military is no where close to United States Military. they just got there first Ship Carrier and the US has had that more than 5 decades so just imagine how advanced we are now[pic] but just basing on ur logic that they would "invade" america or america was on brink of downfall they would take everybody else down with them

China is more of threat to cut off the u s on on the import and export side... But a large % of china gross product is exported to u s so war will hurt them alot since we make them money.... Thats one reason why obama want the us to be more independent cutting taxes on home grown companies and trying to reverse the out sources of jobs to other countries ......... And also the united states is sitting on one of the largest oil reserves in the world and we barley even touch it (alska)............ And not to mention we are not land locked with china so if they invade they will have to come through canda/alaska or through mexico and neither one will happen when we got ....un man rockets that can hit a taxi cab in russia from somewhere in safely inside u s boarders... I can see a nuclear holocaust b4 an invasion...

China poses no threat to the U.S. China relies on us for their economy to "thrive" (which it isn't). Without the support of U.S. companies, China would be more of a 3rd world country than it is now. People over there are working for pennies. How is that "nation-building)? Once their manufacturing sector starts requesting better working conditions and higher salaries, the jobs will go to another country (that will then be considered a threat to the United States).

The real threat lies in countries that sell us commodities. All China is good for is manufacturing. And the BIGGEST threat to the U.S. is its own citizens. The wealthy individuals that continue to widen the gap between the rich and the poor will drive this country to ruin.

We are falling so far behind in regards to education that we will have no choice but to import professionals. But I digress................

Wait..... so you're going to act as if China is not in a better economic situation than the united states (or any other country for that matter) is in???

Our economy is a piece of !! compared to what it used to be, but it's still better than 90% of the world. We see it as "Man I can't even pay my cellphone bill" but the people over in most of these countries don't even know wth a cellphone even is. [pic]
