ITU and Rivals articles on Bostwick, Senat and Bain (reposted from Bleed and Miamino on AATU/Yuku):

Inside the U on Bostwick 5/6
Port St. Lucie West Centennial defensive lineman Jaynard Bostwick has been pretty consistent about one thing throughout the process.

Miami has long been on top for Bostwick (6-4, 280) even though Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Tennessee have offered.

“I don’t have a group of favorites but the main one is still Miami because that’s a family school for me,” Bostwick said. “I want to visit some schools out of state but I’m not sure if I can before official visits. I’m going to take all of those and commit sometime after the season is over.”

Bostwick got into more detail about why he likes the Canes but it all really boils down to the familiarity factor.

“I’ve been raised watching them and following the ‘U’,” Bostwick said. “My cousin (Thurston Armbrister) is there and that gives me more of a head start as far as seeing the campus and the program. I’ve been able to get familiar with the coaches because of that. By them seeing me more, we’ve est@blished more of a relationship.”

Bostwick found out where Miami would be planning to play him. That’s important because he wants at least some opportunities to play a little defensive end.

“They told me I’m very important and they’ve talked about how they run their fronts,” Bostwick said. “They could move me inside or I might still have the chance to play some at end. They like more physical guys coming of the edge and I fit what they’re looking for with that.”

Even though Miami has an advantage right now, Bostwick talked about why he knows he’s not ready to make them his choice.

“I’m still open and I might see something I really like at one of these other schools,” Bostwick said. “I would have to consider that if I get that feeling somewhere else.”

Bostwick recently took his first visit to a school not named Miami. He went up to Columbia to catch South Carolina’s spring game on April 14th.

“One of my teammates said he was going up there and they were already sending me mail,” Bostwick said. “Their coaches asked him if he knew me so it all came together at the last minute. I rode up with him and it was a good visit. It was nice to see even though it was a little different. They had nice facilities and we got to hang out in the lockeroom. The coaches were very laid back and I got to spend time with the defensive line coach (Coach Lawing).”

The month of May brings opportunities for new schools to get involved and some have been trying their luck already.

“It’s not too different but I have to make sure I’m on top of my game a little more in practice,” Bostwick said. “A few schools were here so far, LSU, Alabama, Illinois, and Florida State. My dad and my coaches already told me to be ready for the different colleges that are coming.”

Rivals on Senat 5/7
Immokalee (FL) High School DT Deadrin Senat announced over the weekend that he's opening up his recruitment, and the former Florida State commit says the Canes are very much in it.

"Miami, I like how they grind, love the way Al Golden has the program going, everything," Senat said. "I like a lot of stuff Miami's doing."

He says he has no announcement date in mind.

"I have plenty of time to decide; all the schools are in it," he said. "I'll narrow it down after I see some more schools."

Of why he backed off his FSU commitment, Senat said, "Nothing made me decide, and I'm still interested in Florida State."

He adds that what he wants in a college program is that "I'm looking to play (early). I want to bring the best out of me and our team wherever I go."

Senat says he would like to attend the same school as teammates Mackensie Alexander and Mackenro Alexander.

"We plan to take some trips together," Senat said. "All three of us are looking to go together."

Of if he has any plans coming up to visit UM, Senat said, "We have to set up a date. We're going to start planning some this week."

Senat stays in regular contact with UM line coach Jethro Franklin.

"I talked to him last week," Senat said. "I was just checking in with him, seeing what's up. I usually call him twice a week, try to call coaches from everywhere each week."

He adds that Franklin is "a pretty good coach, knows what he's talking about. And he's good with his players."

Rivals on Bain 5/7
Ft. Lauderdale (FL) University School DT Maquedius Bain remains a soft Florida State commitment but maintains a strong interest in Miami as well.

"I'm still looking at Miami," he said. "I went to Miami's spring game. It went well - I liked it. They said they wanted me to commit, but I said I wasn't ready."

So what will it take for a program like UM to catch FSU?

"Just show that they want me, that they will start me as a freshman, show love for me," Bain said.

He says a reason Florida State remains on top is "my relationship with the coaches there."

Bain says he has a top five but isn't ready to make it public yet.

"I'll do it when my season starts," he said. "I'm still moving teams in and out of there."

He says the common denominator for the final five will be "They all have to show me good team spirit."

Asked if he expects to firm up a decision before signing day, Bain said, "I'm not sure yet. I'm still choosing between signing day and the Under Armour game."

Asked about any local pressure to choose UM, Bain said, "Everyone wants to see me at Miami right now, but I'm not saying anything right now."

Is the local pressure hard to deal with?

"No, not really," Bain said. "I like it. All they're doing is just push me to commit to Miami, but I don't pay any mind to it."

Asked what kind of chance the Canes have of landing him, Bain said, "More than a tiny chance.

they just need to go ahead with that package deal with the Alexander Brothers and Senat. even if senate and the brother that plays saftey flop. Mackensie is a sure thing man.

Former UM coach Butch Davis’ son, Drew, has strong interest in walking on as a quarterback at UM, the family confirmed. But it's not definite yet; he hasn't enrolled. After North Carolina fired Davis last summer, the chancellor said he was upset that Davis offered Drew a scholarship without the school’s permission. A lightly recruited, two-star prospect, Drew Davis threw 16 touchdowns and seven picks last season at East Chapel High in North Carolina.

### UM had 28 catches from tight ends last season, and offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch said he has added "more schemes to get them involved [more] because of how young we are at receiver." He's determined to raise the number of tight end catches to the 60 range… Cornerbacks finished spring in this order in the staff’s eyes: Brandon McGee ("definitely ahead of the others," defensive backs coach Paul Williams said), Thomas Finnie, Ladarius Gunter, then freshman Larry Hope. “At least two of the freshmen will play,” Williams said. Tracy Howard[..]uredly will, and Deon Bush has a decent chance.

### UM offensive line coach Art Kehoe predicted this week: “We’re going to win like crazy. I know what’s expected of this program, and it’s coming. Trust me on that. I don’t know if it will be this year.” Kehoe said the culture “is not remotely close, anywhere near where it was” when Golden hired him.... Among the 10 players who enrolled this week: Howard, Bush, elite Norland running back Duke Johnson (who will make an immediate impact), and receivers Robert Lockhart and Malcolm Lewis.

Teammates’ eyebrows were raised when running back Duke Johnson and cornerback Tracy Howard, both five-star recruits, arrived on UM’s campus a week ago. Maurice Hagens saw enough in one week to call Johnson “amazing.”

“Wow,” Eduardo Clements said of Johnson. “Last week, in 7-on-7s, he caught a pass, made a move, ran for a touchdown, and I’m like, ‘Damn.’ And Tracy is everything everyone makes him out to be – the footwork, breaking on the ball.” Several Hurricanes like what they have seen of receivers Malcolm Lewis and Robert Lockhart.

+ Former players love how they have been welcomed back by Al Golden, but when Clements saw Clinton Portis on campus last week, “I was scared to say something. He’s a guy I look up to.” So good guy teammate Mike James got Clements on the phone with Portis, who counseled him about sharing carries with two other backs – the likely scenario for James, Clements and Johnson this fall.

The Booker T Washington Tornadoes made it to the Class 5A State Championship game last season. The young talented team came up short, but head coach Tim “Ice” Harris told CaneInsider.com that it was a learning experience for his team.

With spring football coming to a close, Miami linebacker coach Michael Barrow and offensive line coach Art Kehoe popped in to get an eye on the local talent. Two prospects that are high on Miami’s radar are linebacker Matthew Thomas and offensive lineman Denver Kirkland.

“Michael Barrow has stopped by as well as Art Kehoe to evaluate offensive lineman Denver Kirkland,” Coach Harris said. “Coach Barrow, our recruiter for the area, he also evaluated Matthew Thomas as well as all of the other kids.”

Michael Barrow and Coach Harris have history going back to their years coaching together.

“I have a good relationship with Coach Barrow,” Coach Harris said. “We coached together for three years. He is an excellent coach and he is doing an excellent job recruiting. He is doing it right.”

The recruiting process can be grueling for some top recruits. Kirkland and Thomas are both putting in the time to learn how that process works and ways to narrow down their top college choices.

“At this point both kids are putting the recruiting process together,” Coach Harris said. “We are in spring ball. They are understanding the process, but at the same time they are trying to get themselves ready to finish out spring football. They are also putting together a list of all of the schools that offered them a scholarship. As the season progresses and throughout the summer things will get to where they will start identifying the top five teams of their choice.”

Denver Kirkland, 6’4 and 310-pounds, has offers from Ole Miss, Louisville, Miami, Auburn, Florida State, South Florida, USC and West Virginia as well as others. Coach Harris talked about the type of player he is.

“He is staying solid even though he has added muscle,” Coach Harris said about Kirkland. “He is 6’4, about 310. He has been running. We make sure he is improving on his running and getting in shape. He has been improving in that area for a big guy. He is doing well.

“He is doing the things he needs to do to stay in shape and looking to pass the eyeball test when the schools come in and evaluate him. His ability to lead had picked up big-time from last year to this year to the spring. He has been more verbal and understanding based on what we went through last year, not winning the state championship. Being in it and not winning a state championship all of the kids felt that and they want to make sure they add what they need to do to be champions at the end of the day. That ability to lead helps them in that recruiting process because I know at the BCS conference level they are looking for guys who are leaders. They want guys who can come to their program with leadership ability and try to play early. That is what he is doing, setting himself up in that way. Also, he is improving his football IQ overall and getting himself in position to be a good college player.”

He went on to talk about linebacker Matthew Thomas (6'3/200) who holds offers from Miami, Alabama, Florida State, Florida, Oklahoma, USC, Ole Miss and West Virginia.

“His ability to play is excellent. He made a huge jump from one season of football. He made one of the fastest jumps in high school to the level of his play. From a linebacker position and then put his hand in the ground at the D-end position, he really made a massive jump. What we are trying to do is keep upgrading his IQ of the game and be able to understand what he needs to do to talk football. His on-the-field football ability is unbelievable because of the way he can be at the end of the day. We are just making sure his mental part of the game, his notebook part of the game, is on point. That is going to help his on-the-field presence even more.”

bad news fellas

Regarding Miami, according to my contacts it's thought they will lose more scholarships than USC did as penalty from the NCAA. The information I received is the NCAA has even more damning evidence and they intend to make an example out of Miami. They will be crippled after the penalties are announced.

40 schollies over 3 years
3 year bowl ban (not including self imposed 2011)
5 years probation
limited recruiting abilities for 2 years (ie how much contact they can have with recruits, phone calls/visits)
