FSU commit Tony Stevens says he's exploring his options



Orlando Evans High wide receiver and Florida State commit Tony Stevens is exploring his options.

Stevens (6-3, 175) — ranked No. 10 on the Sentinel’s 2013 Central Florida Super60 list — doesn’t seem as committed to the Seminoles now as when he first pledged to them in February.

“I’d say like a medium,” said Stevens, who scored two touchdowns Sunday in the championship game of the Gridion Kings 7-on-7 tournament as the Southest rolled past the Midwest squad 47-19. “They still talk to me, it’s been the same kind of contact.”

Although he’s still committed, Stevens is intent on visiting other schools in the next several months.

“Ohio State, USF and South Carolina have been contacting me, so I’m going to go ahead and take some visits up there,” Stevens said.

All three teams have extended scholarship offers to Stevens.

USF has commitments from two of Stevens’ teammates from the Orlando-based all-star 7-on-7 team Top Recruits Now in Winter Park quarterback Asiantii Woulard and DeLand running back JoJo Kemp.

Ohio State is appealing to Stevens because of head coach Urban Meyer.

“I like Urban Meyer,” Stevens said.

Stevens is the poster child of the reclamation project at Evans, a program that had fallen on hard times. The Trojans were revitalized this past season by head coach Chip Gierke and made the playoffs for the first time since 2001. Stevens is a dynamic playmaker, especially on vertical routes down the field. He had 781 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns on 37 receptions during the Trojans 9-2 season.

Evans linebacker Ro’Derrick Hoskins is also committed to FSU.

I agree with you on that champ. G5 is a play maker but a average corner. You'll live & die with him. Look at the florida game. He had 2 ints and at the end of the game he made a stupid penalty that could've cost us that game if Florida were to capalize. I think if Karlos can show stoops he can own his own by knowing the playbook. I can see him as a starter with Joyner. Move brooks to corner. Then again they have a deep roster at db too. Just going to get straight to the point, this is straight from two of his[..]istant coaches mouth and confirms what I have been saying about his situation these past few months. THE ISSUE IS NOT GRADES WITH STACEY COLEY, I said months ago that Aubrey Hill went down and evaluated Coley this spring and told his[..]istant coach that if he gets his GPA to a 2.5 (which is required now) he has his scholarship to UF. Stacey Coley was offered by UF a few weeks after.

Polo: Aye man, whats the issue with Stacey and UF, why didnt he commit yet?

OC: It's the offense that Florida has thats turning him away, they don't have a proven QB.

Polo: Everybody online is saying UF started to fail on Stacey because of his grades (OC cut me short)

OC: Bro its not his grades, the kid has good academics he has a 2.6 GPA and he scored a 20 on his ACT, which is more then enough, trust me it's not grades

OC: He still loves UF, its just the offense has that he isn't happy with but im telling FSU might get him and UGA like him alot, watch out for Clemson too.
