| I'm not a packers fan by any means but if they traded for randy moss, signed lavar arrington and had another solid draft, they could make a sb push(no way they would win the sb though) | |

| harris signs an extension today and favre will have surgery on his ankle that has been bothering him... Favre to have ankle surgery By Pete Dougherty Quarterback Brett Favre will travel to Green Bay sometime in the next couple weeks to undergo surgery to remove bone spurs in his left ankle that have been bothering him for several years, said a source familiar with the situation. Favre has postponed the surgery for at least five years and played through the discomfort, but this year he’s decided to undergo the procedure to give him some relief and perhaps help his mobility. General Manager Ted Thompson confirmed Tuesday that Favre is having the spurs removed this offseason by team physician Pat McKenzie. “Nobody’s told me exactly when (the surgery) is,” Thompson said. “The plan was to go ahead and have it done sometime, and (Favre) mentioned when I first talked to him he would set that up with Pat, and I don’t have any dates. It wouldn’t surprise me (that they’ve set a date), but I can’t confirm anything.” The surgery shouldn’t sideline Favre for more than several weeks. Unless there are unexpected complications, he presumably will be ready to participate in the Packers’ post-draft minicamp in early May. “I wouldn’t think (he’d be out long),” Thompson said. “There’d be some normal down time, but I haven’t gone through that with our medical people yet.” Harris earns chance to boost pay By Pete Dougherty Al Harris’ contractual problems came to an amicable conclusion Tuesday when he and the Green Bay Packers agreed to a contact extension that will pay the starting cornerback about $4 million on top of his previously scheduled pay over the next three seasons. Harris’ agent, Jack Bechta, said the agreement he and team vice president Andrew Brandt negotiated over the last two weeks will spread the $4 million in new money almost evenly over the next three years. The large majority of it will be paid in weekly bonuses where Harris has to be on the 45-man active game-day roster to collect. Harris, 32, never has missed a game in his eight-year NFL career, so his durability suggests he’ll collect most or all of that pay. That contract structure also protects the Packers, who gave Harris no guaranteed money but upgraded his contract meaningfully by adding potentially $4 million to the $7.985 million he’s already scheduled to make the next three years if Harris is able to play. That raises his average salary from $2.66 million a year to as much as $3.995 million over that time. “(Harris) feels great about it,” Bechta said Tuesday afternoon. “He was never asking for anything for free. Actually, initially he wanted some huge Pro Bowl (salary) escalators, and it’s kind of formed a life of its own. He wanted an adjustment paid on the Pro Bowl.” General Manager Ted Thompson’s decision to improve Harris’ contract this offseason reflects the changing economics of the NFL, where teams are more willing to upgrade the contracts of players who have more than one season left on their current deal. Thompson appeared especially willing to work with Harris because though Harris protested his contract by not showing up for any voluntary practices last year, he took part in mandatory drills, had a strong 2006 season and rarely spoke publicly about his concerns. Though the Packers signed cornerback Charles Woodson last year as a free agent for a deal that included $10.5 million in first-year pay, Harris remained the Packers’ No. 1 cornerback in ’06 and matched up with the opponent’s best receiver almost every week. Harris was entering the fourth year of a six-year deal this season that averaged $3.5 million and was already scheduled to pay him $2.7 million this year, $2.85 million next year and $3 million in ’09. The $4 million bonuses will be on top of that. The extension also included two extra years, for 2010 and ’11, at lower salaries that Bechta and Harris requested and that would reflect Harris’ likely status at that time as a No. 3 or 4 cornerback. His salary for 2010, when he will be 35, is for $2.4 million, and for 2011 will be $1.75 million. “In coming with that approach, (the Packers) are going, ‘Wow, he’s realistic about playing those years and being here,’” Bechta said. The contract also doubles Harris’ Pro Bowl incentives each year from $100,000 to $200,000. Thompson said the Packers haven’t received the signed contract, so he could not officially confirm the deal. “Al’s a good player for us,” Thompson said. “He’s competitive, a professional, takes good care of his body, and we’re happy he’s a Packer.” | |

| newsss Tight end re-signs with Packers Tight end Donald Lee will give it another shot with the Green Bay Packers. Despite a disappointing 2006 season, Lee signed off on a one-year contract with the Packers on Monday, according to his agent Cary Mark Fabrikant. Providing he makes the team, Lee will be paid the veteran's minimum for a fifth-year player of $595,000 in 2007. He also received a small signing bonus as part of the deal, Fabrikant said. Lee finished with just 10 catches for 150 yards and no touchdowns in 2006, one season after he had a career-high 33 catches and two touchdowns, tops among Green Bay’s tight ends. He often played behind Bubba Franks and David Martin. It is possible that Martin, who is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent, will depart for another team in March, leaving the door open for Lee. Franks also struggled last season, and the Packers like Lee's ability to stretch the field and block in the team's zone-blocking scheme. At 6-foot-4, 248 pounds, Lee has excellent size and he has yet to miss a game in his career, which began in Miami. He also can contribute on special teams. Packers sign four more In addition to signing punter David Lonie on Friday, the Green Bay Packers today announced that they have signed four other "street" free agents. Additions to the roster are linebacker Tim Goodwell, cornerback Antonio Malone, linebacker Marcus Randall, and defensive tackle Devarick Scandrett. Malone and Goodwell were in Green Bay's training camp last season. Goodwell also spent a portion of the season on the team's eight-man practice squad. Randall, a former quarterback for Louisiana State University, was signed by the Tennessee Titans as a non-drafted free agent following the 2005 draft. He spent most of the ’05 regular season on the Titans’ practice squad, and was released at the end of Tennessee’s 2006 preseason. He was out of football last year. Randall converted to safety as a rookie with Tennessee, then switched to linebacker last year. Scandrett signed with the Houston Texans prior to 2006 training camp. A non-drafted free agent out of Middle Tennessee State, he played in a pair of preseason games before Houston released him last August. | |

Favre will never be as good as Marino in my opinion....sorry but who really cares..the past is the past... Manning in my eyes is the only person better then Marino if you dare say that much. Marino never had a ring, but don't kid yourself. Any educated football player or analysis will prove Marino had good WR's but the rest of the team was non existent. When did Marino ever have a talented rb? Cecil Collins? Byars? Abdul Jabar? Smith? Avery? hell even Thurman Thomas at one point lol. Like I said though...who cares lol Where Favre belongs : [pic] Last edited by iLLuZiOnZ1313; 02-25-2007 at 07:33 PM.. | ||

| mmm, lets see what was said in my post..... "I am excited to see Favre back, get the touchdown record in the same amount of seasons as Marino..." glad you didn't dispute that though cause you would have been foolish. Instead you made a post that was completely meaningless- as you said, the past is the past, and Favre however old, is still current. But we will probably be at the same bar, at the same time watching it when he breaks the record :) | |
