You should definitely root. There are a few ROMS out now that improve the already dope battery life, and make it a bit snappier.

Definitely the dopest Android phone out.

Roots never really necessary. It adds a lot of customization to your phone but if you want to increase your battery life then yeah I would root.

since you dont know much about rooting, it takes more than just rooting your phone to increase your battery life.

the biggest battery saving/performance improving thing you can do for your phone is flash a custom kernel that over/underclocks your processor, lowers the voltage, handles the memory better, etc etc...

try going to < thats the official development thread for the note on xda. you should just play the backseat for a while, use the search engine, and just read.

i definitely recommend reading up on rooting, the beauty of having an android is being able to do whatever you want with it. if you want to change an icon, the theme, the kernel, the os, you can do anything you want. every developer has different features in their kernel, there are different ROM's (operating systems) like MIUI, Cyanogenmod, TouchWiz based (Samsung), Sense based (HTC), AOSP based (Android Open Source Project = the untouched operating system that google developed before being changed by your phone manufacturer), and different themes from other developers.

rooting is not necessary, and you can easily improve battery life without rooting by turning off data when not using your phone, lowering the brightness, turning off gps, turning off auto sync, but if you want complete control over everything you have to get root access.
also you can develop your own ROM by downloading and building AOSP from google. (its a lot more complicated than just downloading it and building it. you still have to get everything working such as data, wifi, bluetooth, gps, usb, touchscreen, camera, etc... but if that intrigues you, you can go to and read up on it.)

how exactly would you do this after you root? is there a app that optimizes it or something?

No. Unless you have absolutely terrible battery life, there is no need to root. If you do choose to root, make sure you're able to do the process flawlessly.

I think that the phones that have came out in the last year don't really require rooting for the best performance. I always relied on ATK to save the battery.

I like to root because you can do the wifi tethering..the kernels really help with the battery life along with juice defender pro. Also with root you can change the boot up animation, the carriers name, add custom words to lock screen, I can even change the DPI of my phone for even better battery life

no...foxfi is the wifi tethering...

that was the only real reason to root...

rooting is mad risky...ur passwords and credentials are more vulnerable
