A sun dog or sundog (scientific name parhelion, plural parhelia, from Greek parēlion, (παρήλιον), παρά(beside) + ήλιος(sun), "beside the sun"; also called a mock sun) is an atmospheric phenomenon that creates bright spots of light in the sky, often on a luminous ring or halo on either side of the sun.[1] (formed by ice crystals)
Sundogs may appear as a colored patch of light to the left or right of the sun, 22° distant and at the same distance above the horizon as the sun, and in ice halos. They can be seen anywhere in the world during any season, but they are not always obvious or bright. Sundogs are best seen and are most conspicuous when the sun is low.

Fascinating! I'd never heard of them before and happened to learn about them doing some reading and research into a bible passage that caught my eye. I figured some of the science heads here would be interested in learning something strange about our world.

I know man! I would like to see one in real life. More than likely the city lights won't let me see that and I'm not going all the way out in the middle of nowhere just to see a mock sun.

Unless I plan an astronomy/camping .. roll out with some weed, shrooms and a telescope. Have a good time and learn a few things while I'm out there. Most of my boys will come for the d but not for the learning though >:^(
