Biological immortality

 Biological immortality
By Spliffee - 01-12-2010, 06:49 PM - Boxden > The Faculty of Science

Ok, this might be a "Knowledge corner" type topic, since the science is still hypothetical, however it's still in the realm of science, not metaphysics, and I don't feel like debating a bunch of !!s who claim overcoming cancer is somehow insulting God.

There are tons of highly speculative ways to get "immortal" ranging from, cryonics, brain uploading, traveling at almost the speed of light to stop ageing and other !! I call BS on...

However, discovering and manipulating cells to regenerate and hence stop the body and brain from collapsing is realistic.
Combine this with finding cures for all ailments and you pretty much have it... immortality.
It's really that simple and science is approaching many of these things rapidly with great results...

Really, just extending life by another 100-200 years would suffice for now...
(almost the only limitation of what we can achieve in those 200 years is our imagination, that is if war or some other catastrophical event doesn't k!ll us).
By that time biological immortality will be reached...

Sure you'll still be able to die in accidents, but you get my point...

So how many believe you'll be around for year 2200?

Okay.Player
I looked into cryogenics. Its very realistic. Their are legal matters that hinder a living person from going into cryogenics and they haven't found a way ( so they say) to resuscitate a person that has been cryogenic-ally frozen. The name of the facility is Alcor in Colorado I believe. As far as the other ways. I dont really believe it can happen not because its not possible but because people with power would never let it happen. the only peopel that can do the cryogenics are the same people who can afford to take tourist flights into space.

Wouldn't this cause over-population?

KrayLay: foshoooooo, but that doesn't stop scientists from pursuing it.

Young Zero, I think being a guina pig for such a thing would be a bad strategy to achieve immortality :P

yes it would, but if you have things regulated such as a list to have people who want kids, then everytime someone died from an event another person can be born....we would be able to travel the solar system in our ships terraform new planets ext.

I doubt it.

But if this was the year 2200, and you were asking me if I'd be around to see 2400, then I'd probably answer differently.

No, Powers that be are trying to murk off a vast majority of people as we speak[pic]
Not to mention 2012:lachen001:

But naw seriously I watched a "Future Is Now" Technology special on the discovery channel and they "claimed" that anybody in their 20's now should be alive long enough to see it happen.

Ofcourse, They are talking from a scientist / perfect world / for the better of men point of view. [pic]

If YOU personally want to receive the benefits you better start collecting your billions of euros now! [pic]
