TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran on Friday displayed a new, all-Iranian-made air defense system, saying it was designed to confront American warplanes in case of a U.S. attack on the country.

The system was on show during a military parade in Tehran commemorating the start of the Iraq-Iran war 32 years ago.

The semi-official Fars news agency said the Raad, or Thunder, is more advanced than its Russian predecessor and is designed to confront f!ghter jets, cruise missiles, smart b0mbs, helicopters and drones.

Tehran has tried to build a self-sufficient military program since 1992. More recently, Iran's military leaders have said they believe future wars will be air- and sea-based and Tehran has sought to upgrade its air defense systems and naval power in anticipation of such a possibility.

Both the United States and Israel have not ruled out a military strike against Iranian nuclear facilities, which the West suspects are aimed at building a nuclear weapon. It's a charge that Iran denies, insisting its nuclear program is only for peaceful purposes.

At Friday's parade in Tehran, Gen. Ami Ali Hajizadeh, who heads the Revolutionary Guard's airspace division, warned that the system was ready in case of an attack on Iran.

"This system is built with the aim to confront American warplanes," Hajizadeh said, adding that Raad carries missiles with a range of 50 kilometers (30 miles), capable of hitting targets at 22,000 meters (75,000 feet).

He also warned Israel, saying a war against Iran will lead to the destruction of the Jewish state.

"The Zionist regime is capable of starting the war" he said. "But the final moment (of the war) will be in our hands. In that case, there will be no Zionist regime anymore."

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who also attended the parade, defended Iran's right to pursue a nuclear program.

"Let's the world know that Iran's great nation will defend its rights, implementation of justice and well as human dignity," he said.

Also on display at the parade were Iranian missiles Sajjil-2 and Ghadr F-1, both with a range of about 2,000 kilometers (1,200 miles) and capable of reaching Israel, U.S. bases in the region and parts of southern Europe.

The parade took place as U.S.-led naval exercises are under way in the waters of the Persian Gulf. They are the largest such maneuvers aimed at countering sea mines ever to take place in the region.

American officials insist the exercises are defensive in nature and not directed at any particular country. But the U.S.-led drills are seen as a response to Iranian warnings earlier this year it could close the strategic oil route in the Strait of Hormuz in retaliation for tighter Western sanctions. Tehran has since stepped back from those threats.

Iran's chief of staff, Gen. Ha#san Firouzabadi, said Friday the country does not feel threatened by the U.S. drill, describing it as a "refreshment" exercise for naval forces "that have not moved for months."

This isone of the reasons every other country wants to wipe them off. These niccas got technology far greater than any other country as far as weapons and protection goes.and mainly usa wants to steal it like they do with everything else like land for example....

Here you go again. Look at who claimed that it was a model. An ex-pentagon officer. Im sure he's going to be the one to bear the news that its real, and be k#lled by the government. I'm sure thats exactly what he wants to do. [pic]

Why would it be a model? If it was flying in their airspace? Im confident that its not a model at all, but we want the world to think it is.

Don't be surprised if we attempt to fly over Iran and launch "things" and their defense system shoots down one of our jets. Then we blame them for starting it for shootin down the plane somehow, then launching the war. [pic]

"We've asked for it back. We'll see how the Iranians respond," Obama said at a news conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki.
It was the first open confirmation by the Obama administration that Iran was in possession of the drone, which Tehran says it brought down as the plane was flying over the country's territory.

So Obama asks for a fake drone to be returned? That's not our drone but we want it back? [pic]

From your own link:
'That's a fake': Iran's captured 'spy plane' is not a U.S. drone, claims ex-Pentagon officer

* * Wrong colour and wrong welding on wing joints
* * We hacked into GPS system to bring it down, says Iran
* * Drone was looking for nuclear sites, CNN told

The unmanned U.S. spy plane captured by Iran appears to be a fake, a former Pentagon official has claimed.

It is the wrong colour and the welding along the wing joints does not appear to conform to the stealth design that helps it avoid radar detection, he said.

But U.S. military officials have told CNN the drone was on a surveillance mission of suspected nuclear sites in the country.

U.S. and NATO officials have said it was on a mission to patrol the Afghan-Iran border and had veered off course when it went missing.

Now military officials have told CNN that the Afghan government was unaware of the use of its territory to fly surveillance drones over Iran.

The CIA had not informed the Defense Department of the drone's mission when reports first emerged that it had crashed.

Panetta said he did not believe Iran would agree to the U.S. request for the drone's return but told Fox News that the stealth missions along the Iran-Afghan border would 'absolutely' continue.

He added: 'Our request for return of the drone is an appropriate request,' Panetta said. 'I don't expect that will happen, but I think it's important to make that request.'

Yes they do...how do you think they downed the drone without !!ing it up...they have some !! we don't....but the news won't tell us that. They'll just have a ex pentagon puppet claim it's a fake model. At the same time have Obama ask for it back.

The point is, Iran has some real !! over there...but you know what, don't take my word for it..do some research yourself..

How did Iran manage to capture a US robotic surveillance plane, which looks remarkably undamaged in an Iranian video? The US initially claimed the drone went astray over Afghanistan and blamed a malfunction, but Iran said it had brought the craft down 200 kilometres inside its border earlier this month.

Now the Christian Science Monitor reports that Iran jammed GPS signals and fooled the drone into landing at an Iranian base. "The GPS navigation is the weakest point," an unnamed Iranian engineer analysing the captured drone told a Monitor correspondent inside Iran. "By putting noise [jamming] on the communications, you force the bird into autopilot. This is where the bird loses its brain."

Once the drone lost its bearings, the engineer said, Iranians were able to reprogram its internal mapping system to think that its home base was an Iranian site at almost the same altitude. He added that the slight mismatch in altitude caused a rough landing that damaged the robot plane's landing gear and underside.

GPS signals are broadcast by satellites, so they are weak near the ground. That makes them vulnerable to interference from stronger nearby signals. Even military versions of GPS are vulnerable to electronic warfare, which usually seeks to disable key systems to bring down a plane. The Iranians claim to have taken that one step further by electronically capturing control of the remotely controlled robot craft.* A former Navy specialist told the Monitor that hostilely reprogramming a GPS to fly to a different home is "certainly possible".

Built by defense contractor Lockheed Martin, the RQ-170 Sentinel craft is a high-flying surveillance craft, which uses stealth technology to elude detection. Although details are cla#sified, some information has leaked, including photos which match those shown by Iran.

At the time the US lost control, it was operated by the CIA. With no US controller operating it, the unmanned aircraft should have crashed - yet the one Iran displayed showed only a dent, although its landing gear was hidden.

If that's what happened to the CIA's Sentinel, it's going to prompt some serious rethinking of how to wage robotic warfare. You don't want the enemy to be able to capture and reprogram your robots so they f!ght you.

Dude...you're an idiot...the Iranians didn't show the drone to anybody for 2 weeks after it went down...

WHAT THE F*CK DO YOU THINK THEY WERE DOING FOR 2 WEEKS BEFORE THEY SHOWED IT OFF TO PEOPLE?!

You think they were reverse engineering it?

No you dumby...they were busy putting the pieces back together because it crashed and they wanted to put on a propaganda show for their people and the world to show their "great victory" over the evil Western powers.

After that was done, they got China and Russia to come in and have a look......hmmm....I wonder who reverse engineered the technology after it was put out for show..............

It's simple. Read the news for yourself and figure !! out. Both sides will be lying...the truth will lie somewhere in between......

If you really believe that, then we have nothing to debate about because clearly you're already programed..

And it doesn't matter how long ago the Iran/Iraq war was.
