Home schooling [pic] Then your child can grow up a sheltered sociopath.

Education is only struggling as much as it is because the government has the desire to make it so schools have quantitative data. They want to make it so they can compare schools with numbers that make little to no sense.

if people were able to home school these kids don't you think they would, who the !! has time to teach their kids 12 years worth of knowledge. most folks dont have enough time to teach their kids how to play sports or ride bikes. Not to mention have of these parents only have a 5th grade education. 76k aint !! in the grand scheme of things when you compare it to what other professionals with a degree make. Babysitting them bad[..] kids is worth 50k alone. Teachers take a lot of heat for going on strike because folks get mad cause they forced to deal with they own damn kids.

How do you even fix this problem?

I went to a highschool in Toronto, which is no where near as bad as some parts of the states, but I got by without learninganything, looking back I learned nothing

evne if highschool is supposed to teach you "social dynamics" and "critical thinking", it failed at that too, it just felt like thye needed a place to put a bunch of kids under 18 and there you have it

ehh, overall I think private schools are the best bet, going to work extra hard to make sure my kids go into it, I cringe at the wasted potential of myself (this is my fault, but heck i blame the school ssystem as well)

You're an idiot...

How about you be told your job is hinged on EVEN IF THE KIDS SHOW UP TO SCHOOL.

That's right people. The Chicago BOE is trying to PUNISH THE TEACHERS if the damn kids DONT SHOW UP TO SCHOOL. It's not the crackhead parent's fault...its not the deadbeat parent's that didn't teach their children THEIR DAMN ABC'S before sending them to school's fault. Its the teacher's fault.

How about you be told your job is hinged on whether or not these same damn children (once again, that don't know their ABC's by the 4th grade) pa#s a !!ing standardized test and not even be given the updated material until a month and half after school starts.

Do your research before you open your mouth and say stupid !! about these teachers. And yes, I do take this personally because my mother is one of these "bums" that are always "wanting !! and !!ing".

Clown...

As a union worker in the City of Chicago i really want the teachers to come out on top here. People got to understand whats going on. Its not the lazy or gready teachers who are at fault. Its the city. The mayor Rahm Emanual is anti Union. The Demactrats in Ill. are basicaly Republicans whith there actions. They sold the contract for the toll roads, parking meters and now they want to save the money they lost from the Unions. I work for the transit system in chicago and the company president who is apponted by the mayor is going after my union. They want to take our holidays off from us as well as force us to take a pay cut. While the presidnt makes over $200k a year. A $20k increase from the last president. Now they want us to pay $160 a month for health insurance and over $300 if you got your family covered. They want the workers to pay for there bloated saleries. What ever happend to all that lottery money that supposed to go to the schools? It goes into a general welfare fund so they can spend it on anything they want. The problem with chicago's economy isnt the unions its the polititions with there over paid friends jobs.

Ok so I'm gonna speak on this because I actually am a public school teacher. For those of you who think that the public schools teach kids lies, you're idiots. We aren't even allowed to talk about half the !! we need to because people are so quick to pull race/politically correct cards on us. I've gotten the best review at my job going on 3 years now. I highly doubt that any of the kids I teach leave my cla#sroom being dumber. And ya, !!s, I lurk on here while at work. Don't start thinking your experts on !! because you read one article on boxden. Chicago is only ONE, I repeat ONE school district out of hundreds of thousands.

THis isnt about you. Its about the economy so your kids can grow up and be smarter than you. You do want them to succeed you, right?

And pretend like "oh well test scores are lower in the city, means teachers are the problem" Very different atmosphere.

After personally seeing bro your 100% correct. I grew majority of my life in the city and the limited supplies and outdated books seemed to be everywhere. My wife has been the #1 student of our cla#ses all her life, but when she went to the university of Chicago she admitted that nothing she'd learned actually came close to prepare her for that level. I mind you she has never had anything less that a 4.0 and graduated hs with a 4.5gpa

What our son is doing in school now at the age of 4 has me like Wtf (in a good way). It's no doubt in my mind its because we now live in one of those richer Chicago suburbs you are talking about.

it really breaks down to the people themselves in Chicago if you ask me.

Now I have nothing against teachers making more money, but they need to start earning that !! before they fall in favor with me. check this out...cincinnati public schools average teacher makes 49k, and the graduation rate it 81.9%...in a !!ed up school district. CPS is the main school district everyone here complains about, and now after hearing about chicago i think we should pat ourselves on the back for our commitment to success. we art talking about 20+ percent more students graduating, while teachers are making 30k less. And to cap it off for anyone thinking that CPS schools must not face the same problems as the Chicago schools, I'll also give you the fact that 70& of the students are considered financially underprivileged (not a single one of CPS schools are in the typical suburb), and 68% percent of the students are black. So not only are we beating the poverty and financial struggle that our city has, we are beating the racial divide too. so with this all being said, chicago school system and teachers need to step it up, because both of you combined are losing focus of who is important here, and that is the kids, not your need to make more money or the fear that you may lose some because you arent teaching the kids !!.

now back to my original position about the people of chicago...even when you send your kid to a school to learn instead of homeschooling, you have to be actively involved for them to succeed. if you are not involved then you kids wont take it seriously, there is no communication between you and teachers, and ultimately your kids wont study or do the homework it takes to be a successful student. also, you have to spread the word that education is good, and make the community want to feel educated. sounds to me like to many kids in chicago are ready to be gangsters and rappers. we got youth out here getting k#lled over garbage music that is related to the streets, where they are spending there time instead of at school or at home. when that type of !! becomes a part of a community's psyche, it is hard to reverse, and trickles down to the influential youth who then place education at the back of the priority list. i know it is like this in more places than just chicago, but i cant tell you how many times in my life i've seen drug dealers at school here, even if its those young drug dealers, they are at least enrolled in virtual school or some !!. and we have a lot of people who try to lead youth the right way...i've seen with my own two eyes a baller with dope money talk to a lil nicca about keeping his[..] in school. THATS the type of !! you have to have outside of good parents to be successful in a community...a group of people who make have taken the wrong path, but still want to lead their youth and community in the right direction, it builds hope and helps the younger kids know not to idolize the fast money.

now with all of yall coming in here with homeschooling !!...yall can knock all that off. it is almost impractical for most families to do that. in fact it really isnt possible unless you have a family with a mother and a father. do you expect a single mother to quit here job and have no income other than food stamps to teach her kids? nah cause thats not practical. hell even in a two parent household, if neither one of the parents make enough where one can stay home to teach, then you cant expect one to quit a job just to teach. but it is those same parents who WOULD do it if they could that are very active with their kids, and that child ends up being successful even in a bad environment like a chicago school district.

ultimate point of this post...the success or failure of our children in the education system starts with their parents, then the community, and THEN THE SCHOOLS.
