Oct 18 - Two suspects in murk of high school basketball star Tayshana Murphy plead not guilty

The two men accused of k#lling Tayshana (Chicken) Murphy pleaded not guilty to murk charges Tuesday.

In a tense Manhattan courtroom, Tyshawn Brockington and Robert Cartagena, both 21, softly muttered "not guilty" one after the other, drawing gasps from a group of the slain Harlem hoops star's loved ones.

Prosecutors recommended 22 years to life for Murphy's accused k#llers.

"What?" yelled one of the pair's supporters from the back of the courtroom after the recommendation was made.

"That's right," one of Murphy's loved ones fired back.

After Brockington and Cartegana were led out of the courtroom, court officers escorted Murphy's roughly 50 friends and relatives outside first to avoid a confrontation.

Murphy, a senior at Murray Bergtraum High School and one of the nation's top college basketball prospects, was murked Sept. 11 in a Manhattan housing project.

Brockington and Cartegana left New York after the k#lling, but were captured in South Carolina. Their next court date is Nov. 15.
