A Queens man with a history of mental illness pleaded guilty yesterday to suffocating his mother.
Robert Jean-Lord, 27, told cops he choked Marie Jean-Lord to [rip] in their Queens Village home on Oct. 28, 2002, because he thought she was poisoning him.

"I had intended to hurt her, but I didn't want to k!ll her," Jean-Lord told state Supreme Court Justice Randall Eng yesterday as part of a plea deal. "I suffocated her ... with my bare hands."

The 6-foot-3 Jean-Lord had basically stopped eating because of his delusion that his mother was "poisoning the water" and food, and weighed just 96 pounds when he was hospitalized shortly before the k!lling, investigators said.

After k!lling his 52-year-old mother, Jean-Lord cut his wrists with broken gl a$s, called 911 and waited on the front porch, cops said.

"I suffocated her because I thought she was poisoning me," he told emergency workers who arrived at the house. "I wanted water."

Jean-Lord was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital in st@ble condition.

He told cops what happened - and said that he still loved his mother - and asked for the [rip] penalty.

But he later changed his mind and accepted an attorney hired by his family. The lawyer was preparing a psychological defense until he worked out a plea deal yesterday.

Jean-Lord, whose mental illness has been under control with the help of medication since the slaying, was facing up to 25 years to life in prison on a charge of second-degree murk.

But Eng agreed to sentence him to 11 years in exchange for a plea of guilty to first-degree manslaughter.
