A Somali man has been stoned to death for adultery, but his pregnant girlfriend was spared — until she gives birth, the BBC reports .

A crowd of about 300 people in Merka, south of Mogadishu, watched as Abas Hussein Abdirahman, 33, was killed by members of the Islamist group al-Shabab. A spokesman said the woman would be stoned to death after the baby is born. The child will be given to relatives.

In the past year, Islamists who rule most of southern Somalia have stoned to death three people for adultery, including a 13-year-old girl who human rights groups said had been raped.

If you knew the consequence of something that is to a degree of this. Would you still do it?

I doubt it.

It's the people that do it.

It won't make sense to the average person (no offence) but if you really think about it and the Islam's view on outside of marriage relationships. You'll see.

I agree that stoning is indeed extreme punishment for this situation.

Bu let us (those of western culture) not forget that the largest difference between Muslim Quran and the Christian Bible is the addition of the new testament. We should not be haughty. People's opinions differ on where exactly the split in ideology happens, but when you read the old testament of the bible the similar (identical if you will) ideology is striking

When was the last time you did something your parents did not want you to do? According to the bible, you should be stoned for that
Deuteronomy 21.18-21

If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him, his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town. They shall say to the elders, “This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a profligate and a drunkard.” Then all the men of his town shall stone him to death. You must purge the evil from among you. All Israel will hear of it and be afraid.

Stoning to death punishment for a girl that lies about virginity (Deuteronomy 22:20-21)

If, however, the charge is true and no proof of the girl’s virginity can be found, 21she shall be brought to the door of her father’s house and there the men of her town shall stone her to death. She has done a disgraceful thing in Israel by being promiscuous while still in her father’s house. You must purge the evil from among you.

Stoning to death punishment for infidelity (Deuteronomy 22-22)

If a man is found sleeping with another man’s wife, both the man who slept with her and the woman must die. You must purge the evil from Israel.

And the list goes on.
Seeing all this, one may ask why jews are not stoning. The reason why jews dont do this is many of them are not nearly as religiously fundamentalist as they used to be thousands of years ago. In fact, many of the jews I know are atheists. Muslims have become noticeably more liberal as well (evidenced by states such as Turkey or Indonesia), but a larger percentage of Islamic states stayed conservative.

Even so, Mulsim states have been getting progressively more liberal in their enforcement. In Iran there was once a time when women could not drive cars. That is not the case today. My guess is that if this pattern continues, the stoning will eventually stop
