Nov 5 - Inmates come to guard's aid in jail attack

Hillsborough County, Florida, Deputy Kenneth Moon was alone at his station at a county jail facility near Tampa when an inmate attacked him with no warning.

Moon, 64, was no match for Douglas Burden, 24, in custody on various drug charges. With Moon still in his chair, Burden put him in a choke hold and pulled tight.

And then, surveillance video of the Monday attack showed, other inmates jumped into the fray.

But the other inmates joined the fight on the guard's side, pulling Burden away from Moon and punching him in the head. One inmate grabbed Moon's radio and called for back-up. The inmates held Burden down until other guards arrived as one of them extended a hand to help Moon up, according to the video.

Col. James Previtera, commander of Hillsborough County's Department of Detention Services, told reporters he believed that the inmates "saved the deputy's life."

"The response of the inmates in this case, I think, speaks volumes as to the fact that we treat these men and women ... in our facilities with a lot of respect," Previtera said.

Previtera said that Burden was moved to administrative confinement after the attack and that Moon was not seriously hurt.

Notice how dude choking the guard is black and the dudes beating dude are white. It's racism, ya dig? They just wanted to stomp a nigger.

props..this is pretty positive. shows people can still do the right thing no matter the circumstances

as far as the 24 yr old.. for putting grandpa in the sleeper.

How bout a round of cold brews.

How many of you have been to jail? It's not like oz where the guards beat people on a whim. Most guards are normal people and will do anything for the prisoners as long as it doesn't break the rules.

On that note. This is a good thing to hear for once. They will have that looked into when they are sentenced. If they are felons they are just there between status hearings and sentencing hearings. I'm sure the judge will take this into consideration.

your f**king moron.... watch the video stupid. obvisously they weren't all white, thats damn heroic of them to help the guy, he must have been a damn good detention deputy if they stepped in like that. i work in the county jail myself and i've heard stories like that, when a deputy or officer gets into something like that some of the inmates will help. you racist morons like homeboy who made that comment i quoted just stop and think for a minute before you say anything else stupid and make yourself look like a fool again...
