advice to those just starting out looking for employment:

medical insurance offered can be more important then your compensation.

we gonna have to pay for the hospital bill, but the person is going to eat most of that. even if the person had insurance they would of had to pay something, but not as much (unless everything was out of their network). but lets be real, you need to have insurance, its a shame that there's people out there that need it but cant. it also concerns me that people that could get it that dont want it because they think nothing will happen to them until some !! does happen...and then it effects all of us.

Even with health insurance the situation might not have been good. Y'all do know these insurance companies are scammers, right? Sure it's better than not having insurance but either way it's not like having insurance is the end all be all. Like others said it depends on your coverage, and someone who can only afford a $40-$60 premium will not get the same coverage as someone who pays more. That seems to make sense, no? But it's still !!ed up. I've had pretty decent health insurance all my life and I get denied for small !!. These companies will always find some excuse not to pay for your bills. It's a !!ed up state of the industry when they care more about what they can do to save money than what they can do to help the people paying them.

At the same time someone said hospital and business shouldn't be in the same sentence, but it is a business...how can a hospital remain functional without sound business practice? It's easy for you guys to stand here and say that healthcare shouldn't cost that much, but you guys have ANY clue how much some of the technology costs? An MRI machine brand new is already in the millions (most university hospitals have more than one) ...where is the money supposed to come from to pay for all this? You cats are smoking good if you don't expect there to be a price tag on healthcare

did you read the article? Not all shooting victims went to the same hospital. Some hospitals said they'd waive the fee, but the one this dude is at hasn't said anything.

Plus they're talking about extended care after he goes home.

...there is a reason why the Saudi elite fly over here for their serious medical care. The US has the best healthcare in the world IF you can afford it. It's unfortunate that it comes to that, but that's our reality
