Jan 5 - NYC iPhone owner tricks thief using dating app

NEW YORK (AP) — A New York City musician used a combination of technology, seduction, a hammer and a bribe to reclaim his missing iPhone from a confused crook.

Jazz trombonist Nadav Nirenberg (nah-DAHV' NEE'-run-berg) says he left the phone in a livery cab on New Year's Eve. The next morning, the 27-year-old learned via email that someone was sending messages to women using a dating app on the phone.

Nirenberg logged on to the service and offered the man a date — posing as a woman. He even posted a picture of a pretty girl.

When the culprit arrived at Nirenberg's Brooklyn apartment building with wine, the musician greeted him with a $20 bill while holding a hammer — just in case.

I'm not really sure where you're going with that. The guy didn't even physically steal the phone he found it. All I did was point out that he risked getting hurt over a phone. Trying to take the law into your own hands is a bad idea, especially over something so trivial. I'm not suggesting that nothing should be done to the guy for using the phone after finding it.

years ago I lost my nextel. I went to my buddy who worked for nextel back then, and he logged in and tracked my phone to a city bout 10 m iles away. We called my phone and sure enough this idiot picks up. I tell him that I am a FBI agent and that phone was used in a drug sting, and dude started laughing not believing me naturally. So I tell him "Listen I know you live in los feliz, in fact you are on silver lake blvd right now" dude went silent. I told him meet me at the local starbucks in 30 minutes or else I am going to raid his house [pic] I got their with my buddy, and this dude is sitting down with a hat, glasses with a newspaper folded in front of em. I sit down and say "you have my phone" he says "its in the newspaper, listen I am really sorry, dont arrest me" I get my phone, and before I left I told him "you just got played, my phone had GPS on it " dude was maddddddd

sounds like b.s to me, just like this story, he could of easily made it up ... .
