A graffiti tagger who caused thousands of dollars worth of vandalism throughout Newark, including on the University of Delaware campus, was arrested Thursday, city police said today.
Felix J. Smith, 18, of the first block of Dallas Avenue in Newark, was charged with 162 counts of graffiti, possession of graffiti implements, trespassing, theft and underage drinking, said Lt. Mark Farrall. He said the graffiti occurred at 13 locations on the UD campus and 58 other locations in Newark, resulting in more than $8,100 in damaged property.
Detectives obtained a warrant Jan. 2 to search Smith’s home and found evidence linking him to the spree of graffiti incidents that led to his arrest Thursday by Newark and UD police, Farrall said.
He was released pending a hearing in late January at Alderman Court #40.
Smith is the latest tagger arrested in the on-going war against vandalism in Newark, Farrall said.
In the past two years, Newark police have arrested 34 people for similar vandalism.
