Jan 10 - VP Biden: Obama May Use ‘Executive Orders’ to Crack Down on Guns
By KFrizzle - 01-10-2013, 11:56 AM - Boxden > BX Daily Bugle - news and headlines

Vice President Joe Biden addressed the ongoing discussion and debate surrounding gun control. Rather than relying strictly upon the legislative process, he said that Obama “is going to act” — and potentially without Congress’ blessing.

Before meeting with gun safety and victims’ groups, the vice president told reporters that “executive orders” may be an avenue that the administration will use to take swift action on firearms.

“There are executives orders, there’s executive action that can be taken,” he said. “We haven’t decided what that is yet. But we’re compiling it all with the help of the attorney general and the rest of the cabinet members as well as legislative action that we believe is required.”

As the Weekly Standard notes, Biden stressed the importance, in his view, of taking action to curb gun violence. He also said that he is convinced that the government “can affect the well-being of millions of Americans and take thousands of people out of harm’s way” — pending officials “act responsibly.”

Even if Obama attempts to take unilateral action, Biden indicated that legislation is still “required.”

Yes I hate all the gun crime that has been going on lately however what is taking guns away from law abiding citizens going to do when crazy mofo's and criminals will still be able to get them?

It's a lot easier to blame gun control, than to blame a society that produces these types of individuals.

BTW, Biden or his family don't travel anywhere w/o armed guards with fully automatic weapons. [pic]

Since the gun discussion began, has anyone in the government stated that they are going to take anyone's gun? Has anyone named that as an option??

To ban the manufacturing of them right??? So like the previous ban, they will no longer be allowed to make them. Does not mean they are going to ask you to turn yours in.

I agree, but honestly they keep hyping up these school shootings, im sure with the millions of a#sault rifles in circulation they could easily get a hold of one...

Also if i remember correctly in the legislation being proposed she stated that all a#sault rifle owners would have their name put into a database. Off the wall !!.

On some real !!, the only thing thats going to happen is they are going to beef up the background checks, maybe do something regarding magazine size. If they want citizens to put their name in a database if you own an a#sault rifle I dont see the problem. Whats wrong with that?

they make people think that a 30 round mag will k#ll more people in a short amount of time without reloading then a 10 round or 15 round. Its all just a lie.

and piers morgan was on CBS this morning saying they have these "semi a#sault rifles" that have 100 round mags. another blatant lie. There isn't even such thing for a automatic or semi automatic! They have a agenda. [pic]

why put a#sault rifle owners names in a database? How would they even do that? How would they know which people own a#sault rifles? Them putting our names into a database just gives them excuses to take our rifles sometime down the line if they decide not to physically do it now

overall it just really does not look good for responsible gun owners.

Last year Canada ended its national long gun registry, a national database of every rifle and shotgun in the country that was supposed to help police track the movement of and sale of weapons. When it was introduced twenty years ago critics said the registration of firearms would eventually lead to confiscation, a criticism dismissed as ridiculous, yet that’s what happened and more right up until its dismantling.

Side thought:

If the rightwing got together and decided too many people were dying because of abortion in this country and said that they were looking at ways to curb abortion, and that one of the things that they were thinking of doing was using executive orders on abortion, what do you think your reaction would be?

"Oh, yeah, this abortion, it's k#lling too many kids. Look at numbers!
Over a million kids are dead every year because of abortion, and we've got to stop this, and we're looking at any number of ways to stop it, and one of the things we're looking at is an executive order."
Can you imagine what you guys at CNN, NBC, CBS would be doing?
"You can't do that! You can't do that! You can't do that! Abortion's protected by the Constitution. You can't do that."
