| | | | | | Weston’s Cypress Bay High School is a hot topic on Twitter Friday morning, with students abuzz about a website that contains numerous nud3, secksually explicit photos of teenage girls.
The girls, listed by name, are identified as Cypress Bay students.
Broward Schools spokeswoman Tracy Clark said she could not confirm whether the photos are Cypress Bay students, and referred further questions to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
“BSO is handling the investigation,” Clark said. “It’s an active criminal investigation right now.”
When morning-show DJs at local radio station Power 96 spoke about the online photos Friday morning, the station said it was deluged with phone calls from school staff and others who confirmed that the pictures are real. But the station also fielded an angry call from a female listener who complained that discussing the website would inevitably lead more “perverts” to search for the photos.
“I really think it’s kind of d|sgusting that you guys are bringing more attention to these little girls,” one caller said.
“We didn’t give out the website,” one of the radio DJs responded.
On Twitter, comments ranged from sympethetic (“Wow. Feel bad for the girls,” one person wrote) to the you-brought-it-on-yourself variety.
“Exactly why I always say girls shouldn’t send nud3s,” tweeted Kiki Estévez. “Once it’s SENT, they can do WHATEVER they want with it.”
Thanks to smartphones, the act of sending racy photos — sometimes referred to as “secksting” — has become increasingly common, particularly among teens and young adults. But the risk that those photos will permanently damage a reputation is very real. Celebrities such as actress Vanessa Hudgens have watched in horror as leaked nak3d photos go viral on the Internet. Hudgens recently called her photo scandal “by far the worst moment of my career.”
When applying for jobs, it’s become increasing common for employers to “Google” potential hires, meaning the now-infamous Cypress Bay students could be dealing with fallout from their pictures for many years to come.
Though mostly known for its stellar academic reputation and a commencement speech delivered by Vice President Joe Biden, Cypress Bay has had previous secks scandals. In 2009, police discovered a 17-year-old student using his smartphone to snap photos of girls while they were using the school restroom. Last year, police investigated a social studies teacher and wrestling coach who was accused of having an inappropriate secksual relationship with a student. The student confirmed the romantic relationship, but said it was consensual, and she was 18 when it happened.
Police did not file any criminal charges.
Around the country, some teens who have sent or received explicit pictures have been charged with possession of child [..]ography.
A BSO spokesman did not immediately return a call seeking comment Friday morning. | | | | | | Photos of nud3 teen girls linked to Cypress Bay High School - Schools - MiamiHerald.com |
