NEWARK A Newark man was set on fire and seriously injured this afternoon when two men caught him trying to break into a truck and responded by dousing him in an accelerant, officials said.

The victim, whose identity was not released, suffered second-degree burns to his arm, face, abdomen and head, said Capt. John Brown, a spokesman for the city fire department. He was taken to University Hospital in Newark, but Brown did not know the full extent of his injuries.

The man was allegedly breaking into a truck in the 100 block of Osborne Terrace around 1 p.m. Saturday when he was interrupted by two other men. They proceeded to spray him with an accelerant, possibly gasoline, and set him aflame, Brown said.

The a$sailants, whose identities were not released, were charged with aggravated arson, Brown said. The victim was also charged, according to Brown, who said he did not know the specific charges.

Newark police did not respond to requests for comment.

This makes no sense to me... so they burnt a dude for breaking into a car and get charged for robbery... they guy that was breaking into the car gets arrested also, but dont know his charges... and then they get charged with having a weapon (cause its illegal) but then gets charged again for having an "illegal" weapon (cause its illegal)...

i think it maybe more technical than that. they might consider them using gasoline for a weapon as a unlawful possession of a weapon charge. no details have been released but i can only a$sume one of them had an actual weapon.

people get tired of having their sh*t robbed. coming from someone that absolutely hates thieves i can understand, but they're about to get waxed to the fullest over some bullsh*t that can b fixed or replaced. people need to really think before they act.

fu*k the guy that got broiled though. they didn't have to take it there but sh*t happens when u fu*kin wit somebodies sh*t and they catch you. should've had his bum a$s at work.

Damn!

I done seen my cousins and their lil' buddies jack whips like it was going outa style back in the day in Newark, E.Orange, and Plainfield. That's one of those stigmas that just stuck and really lived up to the hype. That "Jersey ni**as Steals Cars" sh*t. I remember ni**as blazing through stop signs cause muthafuhkas were gettin' got stopping at them sh*ts.

I actually overlooked the robbery charge when I read that this morning. Maybe they took something from him before they set him on fire
