GEORGETOWN — A Hutto man accused of burning his wife with an iron brought court to a brief standstill Wednesday when he testified that his wife attacked him with a se# toy.

Hugo Alquicira, charged with aggravated[..]ault with a deadly weapon, told a Williamson County jury that he never struck his wife, Maria Isabel Puente, with an object but he did push her onto a bed after she penetrated his buttocks with a plastic se# toy.

The jury was asked to leave the room after Alquicira, 38, mentioned the device. One of his own lawyers, Raymond Espersen, asked him in front of the judge and prosecutors how his wife had managed to[..]ault him with the toy.

Alquicira then changed his testimony, saying that she had not penetrated him with the toy but had touched his buttocks with it.

The incident that prosecutors say involved the iron took place June 27, 2010, at the home where Alquicira and Puente lived with their three children. One of the children told a deputy at the scene that Alquicira had burned Puente with an iron and told the children that if they spoke with police he would k#ll them, according to the arrest warrant.

Prosecutors presented photos Wednesday showing two burns on one of Puente's arms and her back plus another wound prosecutors said was created by the iron's cord. Alquicira said those wounds were scrapes his wife had gotten while holding on to the back bumper of his car as he was driving off the previous night after an argument.

Prosecutor Stacey Mathews disputed that, saying Puente had said she was holding on to the car window before falling onto her hands.

Two of the couple's children testified on Tuesday, the trial's first day. Nine-year-old Natalie Alquicira Puente said she heard her parents screaming in their locked bedroom June 27, 2010. After one of her brothers picked the lock, Natalie said she walked in and saw that her mother's shirt "was ripped down the middle, she had bruises that were very purple, and Dad was there with an iron in his hand," she said. "He said, 'I didn't do it,'" the girl said. "I was very, very heartbroken."
