OLD BRIDGE — No one knew Terence Tyler better than he knew himself.
Durng his two years with the Marines — well before he k!lled two coworkers at a Pathmark store in Old Bridge this morning — he sent thousands of Twitter messages to the world. Most were innocuous musings about sports or workout routines, but others were hateful and menacing, with most of the vitrol aimed at his fellow Marines. A handful even talked of k!lling as if it were a game.
"...is it normal to want to k!ll ALL of ur coworkers? Maybe but I’m actually in a position where I can," he tweeted on June 1, 2009, adding the acronym "smh," which means "shaking my head" in online jargon.
Three days later, he said, "Grrrr I hope these plp enjoy being annoying cuz whn we deploy they’ll all die anyway."
Using the online handle "Tylerbkstyle," Tyler posted more than 2,000 tweets in 2009, when he was enlisted and serving out his contract in California.
In many of his posts, he talked about his dislike of the Marines, his unhappiness in California and his longing to return to New York City, where he spent much of his youth in Brooklyn. Tyler commonly used abbreviations, slang and numerous profanities on his page.
Tyler enlisted in the Marines in 2008, and was discharged in Feb. 2010, which is far short of the standard four-year contract. It’s against the Marines’ policy, two spokespeople said, to divulge whether the discharge was honorable or not.

Capt. Richard Ulsh, a spokesman for the Marines, said the agency does not plan to launch any investigation related to Tyler. Ulsh declined to answer any specific questions about Tyler. He referenced a social media policy that lays out general expected standards of conduct for Marines.
Authorities said Friday that Tyler used an[..]ault rifle similar to an AK-47 for his supermarket attack. He also had a 45mm handgun, which he used to k!ll himself, they said.
On his Twitter page, Tyler engaged a friend in a lively dialogue about their shooting habits.
"Im the greatest Im always the high shooter whn we do ranges haha I luv it," he said on Aug. 2, 2009.
Later that day, he said, "I’m more a rifle person." Apparently referencing the AK-47[..]ault rifle, he added, "of course ak’s thas my fav."
Continuing the conversation with his friend, he explained how he got into shooting. His expertise came from "all the trainin they gave me plus I’m a natural at it," he said.
Once, he took to Twitter to complain about his cleaning duty.
"I joined to k!ll plp not be a janitor," he tweeted.
It wasn’t all violence and anger on his Twitter account. A big sports fan, he frequently flooded his Twitter feed with thoughts about the New York Yankees, Oakland Raiders and the Los Angeles Lakers, among other favorite teams.

Three people are dead after an employee at the Old Bridge Pathmark armed with an AK-47[..]ault rifle and an automatic pistol opened fire inside the store early this morning, k!lling two young store workers before turning one of the weapons on himself. Just a few blocks away, neighbors identified the shooter as Terence Tyler and said he was a quiet man who kept to himself.
He also talked about his love of sour gummy worms, pizza and Taco Bell. Already studying Spanish through the Rosetta Stone software program, he hoped to take up Arabic as well.
But his anger, frustration and just plain unhappiness continued to show up. Once, he said the "dudes" were racist, and in another post, he called them "fags."
"I no murking sum1 cuz u hate them is wrong but being here makes me think about that ... really does," he wrote on Oct. 7, 2009.
Later that day, he added, "Because these mothaf***as are reeeeeeeally pushin my "kill everyone I see button"."
He also said, "I’m starting to see why plp go on k!llin sprees..."
On Nov. 2, 2009, he quipped, "Grrrr anotha glorious day with my "brothers". Yall have no idea how much I hate these plp."
Ten days later, he tweeted, "I JUST got off work smh these dudes r a F***ING riot smh I c y plp go on violent k!llin sprees....I reallly do."

His next tweet, posted the same day, took a more somber tone. "I wonder more and more y am I even alive," he said. Once again, he ended with his trademark "smh" signoff, meaning "shaking my head."
In his last visible tweet, which was posted on Dec. 1, 2009, he said, "I plan on gettin into the [..] industry pretty soon," and asked another user how much he could get for bondage scenes.
Tyler followed more than 90 people on Twitter, and many of them appear to work in the adult entertainment industry.
