Aug 20 - 19 yr old beat by police after skateboarding on wrong side of street

VENICE, Calif. (KTLA) -- The family of a young man in Venice says police pinned him to the ground and punched him repeatedly in the face while he was already subdued.

Friends and family are planning a protest Monday morning to show support for Ronald Weekley Jr., 20, a student at Xavier College in Venice.

His family says he was skateboarding Saturday afternoon in front of his home when Los Angeles police officers detained him and threw him down to the ground.

The family provided KTLA with a video of the beating, clearly showing the officers fighting with Weekley as he lay prone on the ground.

"There are about three or four officers on top of my son, and the officer comes into view, gets down on the ground and hits him in his face and it's something that you hear in the tape," Ron Weekley Sr. told KTLA.

"The results are is that he has a broken nose, he has a broken cheekbone and he has a concussion," Weekley said.

"Just to hear him scream on video, for them to beat him the way they did, is just... this world is corrupt to me," Weekley's sister, Lashan Smith said, fighting back tears.

The arresting officer reportedly told Weekley's family that he was skateboarding on the wrong side of the street and he resisted arrest.

"Four of them pulled him down and they were handcuffing him, and then they were like beating on him," said Petronia Dabbs, who witnessed the incident.

"I was like screaming because I thought they were going to k!ll him," Dabbs recalled.

"We were telling them, 'Hey, you don't have to do that. He's already down on the ground. Leave him alone,'" another witness, Cindy Madrid, said.

"The poor kid was just like knocked out with blood coming out of his mouth, and he looked like he was out," she said.

Weekly was taken into custody on suspicion of resisting arrest.

The LAPD is in the early stages of its investigation, and officials say it's too early to comment.

Chief Charlie Beck will review the video of the incident and will[..]ess the use of force against Weekley.

There was no word on whether any of the officers involved have been placed on leave.

Make sure none of your kids ever become cops. We have to make it clear that being a cop is basically the worst kind of job you can have. The law enforcement system in this country is beyond corrupt, and anyone who is in this system, is pretty much obligated to comply with the corruption. I've seen it happen to friends and family. DON'T LET ANYONE CLOSE TO YOU BECOME A COP.

I actually was going to go that route also. They tell me stories daily about the most corrupt !! ever, and they act like it's kool. They don't even act the same as they did before. [pic]

If you do stupid !!, endanger lives, or resist arrest, THEN you probably deserve an[..] whooping. But I'm not even talking about that. I'm talking about cops being above the law, doing illegal !!, fabricating stories, not testifying against eachother, internal affairs investigating other cops and never finding anything wrong, excessive force, profiling, etc. etc. etc.
