Marathon b0mbing suspect eyed in connection with Waltham murks - Cambridge, Ma##achusetts - Cambridge Chronicle & Tab
A Waltham city councilor is hoping that a possible connection between one of the Boston Marathon b0mbing suspects and an unsolved triple murk in Waltham will help break open the case.
The Middlese# District Attorney’s Office is looking into the possible tie between now-dead b0mbing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev and the Sept. 11, 2011, murks of three men inside a home on Harding Avenue.
Ward 5 Councilor Gary Marchese, a lawyer by trade who represents Harding Avenue, said that from everything he’s read about the case so far, he’s not sure there’s a clear connection between Tsarnaev and the triple murk.
“I’d like to put that case to rest for sure and I know the neighbors do too,” Marchese said. “And as a city and neighborhood we want to put those murks to rest. But, I don’t see the dots being connected.”
Marchese said there were vague connections between the suspects being “potheads” and the victims being alleged drug dealers, but he wasn’t sure the timeline of events was sensible.
“In my gut – and unless there’s more and something comes out – I don’t see him as a connection to that triple murk,” Marchese said. “But hey, I hope it rekindles the investigation and opens some other avenues to explore who the k#llers are.”
Tsarnaev was identified as one of the suspects involved with the Boston Marathon b0mbings last Monday and was k#lled during a shootout with police in Watertown on Friday morning. He had been training with one of the 2011 murk victims in an attempt to transition from boxing into a possible career in the sport of mixed martial arts, according to news partner WCVB. One of the murk victims identified by police, Brendan Mess, 25, of Waltham, was a well-known mixed martial arts f!ghter.
Stephanie Chelf Guyotte, spokeswoman for the Middlese# District Attorney’s Office, said the investigation was still pending and she couldn’t disclose any specific information about the case.
“We follow all leads and review all information that comes to light in regards to this investigation,” Guyotte said.
The three men k#lled had their throats st@bbed and their bodies covered with marijuana, according to police. The grisly murk scene had produced no leads made public to date. Cambridge residents Eric Weissman, 31, and Rapheal Teken, 37, were also k#lled. Teken graduated from Brookline High School and Brandeis University.
Tsarnaev's brother, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, was captured alive on Friday and was charged in the b0mbings.
The Waltham Police Department has referred all questions to the DA’s office.
