UFC 132: BJ Penn vs Jon Fitch rematch booked for July 2

UFC 132: BJ Penn vs Jon Fitch rematch booked for July 2
By StillFree28 - 03-24-2011, 09:06 AM - Boxden > MMA presented by BX

Let's try this again, shall we?

B.J. Penn and Jon Fitch have both agreed to a rematch of their hotly contested UFC 127 bout that ended in a controversial draw back on Feb 26 in Australia. This time, the two will clash at UFC 132, which is tentatively scheduled for July 2 in Las Vegas.

The promotion announced the pending match-up late last night.

Their first bout was put together to determine a number one contender to the welterweight title. However, after 15 minutes of grueling battle, neither one of the two had clearly gained the upper hand, at least not in the eyes of the judges sitting cage side.

Immediately following the decision, Penn noted that if all involved wanted a rematch he would oblige but his tone and overall demeanor suggested otherwise.

He even hinted at a possible retirement from the sport.

We can officially put that speculation to rest, which was "greatly exaggerated" to begin with according to the fight announcement, and gear up for what should be an epic rematch... right?

WHy didnt they give Fitch the win the first time?!

He is just gonna beat BJ Penn's overrated[..] again

It should be the new improved unstoppable Fitch vs GSP not Fake Shields!

The UFC be on some bull!!

How is Penn overrated? He fought the #2 ww to a draw and wasn't even ranked at the time?
Maybe overrated as a lightweight b ut as a ww he's quite overlooked. Anyone not named Fitch, St. Pierre, Alves or Condit loses to Penn, in my opinion.

And why would anyone want to see Fitch/St Pierre 2? Really? At least the Shields fight could result in us seeing GSP display his standup, something we wouldn't see against Fitch.

because Fitch didn't earn a win...[pic]...if anything that fight showed that Fitch still cannot beat GSP...

Fitch didnt win the last time, he was actually closer to losing since he clearly lost the first 2 rounds

BJ overrated??? [pic] moving on

How is Fitch new and improved? Is he an electric blanket now instead of a regular blanket. He still is a one trick pony. Granted that 1 trick is dominating.

I think BJ could beat Condit and maybe even Alves if he can take him down. Pitbull is kinda big though, but I would much rather see Pitbull/BJ than Fitch/BJ 2.

im not gonna lie and say im excited about this fight. the first 2 rounds were good but the ones where fitch won was all a snoozefest from the first takedown.

fitch is gonna win but it would make my year to see him kayod

penn vs condit would be way better than this imo or condit vs the dream haha

It most likely will be. The main card looks pretty set with the Guillard/Dunham/Wiman/Ortiz fights.

NEVERMIND lol...Cruz/Faber rematch just booked for this event so that's likely the main event. Either Siver/Wiman or Ortiz/Bader will be a helluva Spike prelim..

i doubt theyll headline with cruz/faber as cruz hasnt fought in the ufc yet and fabers last fight wasnt enough to sell him off. the timing of this might have this be the lesnar/jds card which would definitely carry this.

and they do tend to go pretty big for the july 4th card

No way Cruz/Faber is a headliner. Possibly co-headliner but not the big show.

i would be surprised if Faber/Cruz is the main event of Penn/Fitch...

Lesnar/JDS is 131.

I think ya'll are underestimating the drawing power of Urijah Faber and the potential marketability of Cruz...IMO this is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH more marketable than Penn/Fitch 2.

Another note about 132, it looks like Condit might be added to the card as well fighting against either DHK or Rumble Johnson. As far as I know, this as just a rumor at the moment but this card is looking stacked.

lol... the new and improved Jon Fitch got taken down with ease by a lightweight... Hopefully Baby J made an adjustment and he can lock up the RNC this time around... Or maybe now that Fitch must respect the takedown, it'll open up the standup and he'll get KTFO

Hes not overrated, his prime is behind him. he did!!a lot of people off by showing up to fights out of shape, not prepared to fight.
