How much direction do you give your clients

How much direction do you give your clients
By Gmengfx - 04-26-2011, 07:13 AM - Boxden > Digital Photos

i was just wondering because my first photoshoot.. The photographer didnt say 1 thing the whole time. I was kind of caught off guard by it because i didnt really know what to do. It was kind of awkward and was thinking beforehand he was gonna kind of give me some ideas on what to do.

So im just wondering once how much direction do you give your clients. Or does it depend on if its a model or not. Obviously for kids im sure everyone gives direction. But rappers and stuff like that..

I'm not a photographer but i would[..]ume that photographers (like any other business) should give direction to their clients. Most clients just have a broad idea and photographers should be able to lock that idea and direct their clients at all times.... anything from posses to wardrobe direction.

If i go to a photographer and i feel like he doesn't know what he's doing i would think photography is just some sort of hobby to him.

The photographer should definitely be speaking with the model and instructing, obviously if it's a professional model you don't have to do as much directing as they're capable of moving their bodies in correct ways however the main 'goal' or outcome of the photos need to be communicated so both parties know what they're trying to achieve as an end result. If the photographer didn't instruct or speak to you, then I'd say it's probably becuase they were an inexperienced unconfident photographer, who probably wasn't overly sure what they were doing.

the photographer first looks to see what the photos will be used for like editorials or press kits or mixtapes or just for online in general. then the photographer guides you and coaches you on where to stand what looks good and what isnt working and so on.
