| A few questions for photographers... |
| By PremeIndustries - 01-01-2008, 04:51 PM - Boxden > Digital Photos I'm 100% new to photography or being a photographer for that matter, i dont even have a camera but I plan on getting a Nikon D40x by the end of this month so here are a few questions: Whats a realistic price for shoots, and what is it based on? (by picture, by hour, flat rate, etc) Do you think setting up a "studio" in my garage is a good idea? (i've heard of people doing it in their apartments but im talking business wise) Do you need any kind of special permits or anything to take pictures on/in areas? and if so how do you obtain them? Theres probably going to be a few more questions but i need to think of them first |

| if ur brand new to this art ur definitely setting yourself up failure if u just magically think that if you buy an expensive[..] camera your gonna get fresh[..] pics like Bujadar, pda, or mosecksclusive, and be able to charge folks to take pics. Homie thats just not the way to go man but to answer your questions 1. price depends on your skill and what u think your worth i dont pick my cam up for nothing less than 250......and how i charge depends on what type of shoot im doing. 2. use what ever resources you have.....but since u say business wise, u should rent a studio space, me personally i shoot 97 percent of my pictures on location so having a studio isnt all that important to me all though i have access to one to use if need be. 3. YES but it all depends on where your shooting at and there expensive as hell. | |

| people in ny are !!ed cuz its litterally illegal to take pics near or of the brooklyn bridge or monumental structures such as..since 9/11. i dont consider myself a "professional photographer" at all (but good looks for the shout out lilant) its a hobby of mine and iv had mentoring from 2 great photographers but im still a complete novice looking to always improve. i had a little studio set up but i seem to like location/natural sunlight shots better. u dont really have alot of creative control with backdrop shots except for lighting (which is something u will NEED defenitly) i defenitly wouldnt recommend a d40 or d40x because of its lens restrictions..i started with a d40 and trying to find lenses for it was a pain in the[..] and expensive. since photography is really a hobby for me and im not really eating off it like i am in graphics..i hook my friends up with discount prices and !! cuz i enjoy doing it (so far..) but ofcourse just like in any profession or business..once u get ur game up nice, u can raise your prices and set up package deals to your liking. | |

| It really depends on you and the demand of your style of photography. You could be a savant with photography or you could just have to take your time a learn through trial and error. But don't expect to come into it and make a fast turnaround on what you spent on it. Also before you just go out and purchase a camera look at the lenses for it and if you can try to figure out what type of lens would better suit how you shoot. i.e. a prime lens or a wide angle lens. | |
