Time for a new laptop

I dont really use my laptop out of my house. Should I buy a desktop or a laptop? And anybody know any websites where I can go to get a good deal on a new PC?

If you don't need the portability of a laptop, you are much better off with a desktop, because -

1) You get more for your money. $600 invested into a desktop will get you better hardware (faster cpu + more ram) than $600 into a laptop.

2) Desktops have a much lower rate of hardware failure than laptops; hardware failure in laptops is inevitable, where as hardware failure in desktops is more like 1/7.

As for good deals?

NewEgg never disappoints, however keeping up on sites like and can get you GREAT deals.

If you know your !!, you can sometime get great deals on clearance models or floor models in retail stores.

Also, to echo gshag33, if you don't really use your laptop outside of the home, but you like to move it around your house with you, I would opt for a desktop for now, then start saving money and start reading up on tablet PC's.

This is how I see it: I'm never sitting on the couch and writing anything important, or editing movies or !! like that - usually I'm on the couch reading Boxden or news sites, or following sports scores, or just general other !! that doesn't require a full-on computer (and if a post is enough to make me reply, I typically get up and go to the computer to focus and write it anyway). They're also incredibly useful, and once you use one for a few days, you'll see why.

You can almost always find deals on good computers, but before you buy, pick your budget. Also consider that the holiday season is approaching, and great deals are going to be popping up in a couple months.
