IPad wifi issues

I have a 1st gen Ipad. It was working fine and still does from time to time but I am having issues staying connected to the internet. It shows I am connected but then says I am not. I was wondering if this is a Ipad or Router issue and how I could fix it. I usually have to either turn the Ipad on and off a couple times before it connects. It also sometimes works if I forget the network or renew the lease. I am thinking it is a router issue but don't know why since I haven't loss the connect from other devices. Thanks for the help.

I have an iPad 3.
When I'm laying down and the volume and sound toggle are facing or resting on the bed, the same thing happens. What I found works for me is I just turn the iPad around so the buttons on the side are facing the ceiling.
