| How Do You Get Ahead? |
| By egotistical - 12-14-2012, 11:07 AM - Boxden > The Money Spot (finance/careers) What are something you guys do to get a promotion or get ahead in your job? 1) I always stay ahead on my project and ask for more work from my manager. 2) I always make sure to show up early. I will leave on time though unless needed. 3) I set goals everyday / every week. 4) Make sure to be friendly to everyone and talk with most of my co-workers on a personal level. 5) I always try to stay ahead of the curve, meet with people in my industry every other week. 6) I always try to add a new dynamic to my job, for example, finding new ways we could simplify something or automate something. 7) I always take pride in my appearance and consistently stay on top of my wardrobe (this get overlooked a lot). I just made this topic to see what others do and plus not many topics are made in this section. |

It may sounds crazy, but I pretty much just did my job efficiently and !! just came to me after that. I did many of the points you made such as... 1) I always stay ahead on my project and ask for more work from my manager. I was given a set amount of budget hours and our goal was to meet or exceed it and complete the[..]ignment with high quality. Plain and simple. 2) I always make sure to show up early. I will leave on time though unless needed. I just made sure not to miss any meetings and stay within my company's policy with the time frame we're expected to be in the office (Be in the office no later than 9 AM and don't leave before 3 PM, unless my leading supervisor knows) 3) I set goals everyday / every week. Should be obvious for ANY kind of job. 6) I always try to add a new dynamic to my job, for example, finding new ways we could simplify something or automate something. [pic] This too. Whenever I found a shortcut, I didn't keep it to myself. I passed it on to my co-workers involved in the project to help increase our production and quality as a group, even more! Like I've said already, simply doing your job efficiently will get you noticed. And of course, continue to network and stay in touch (LinkedIn seems to be the best solution for me so far). I tend to keep personal relations out of it with my coworkers though (especially something as simple as Facebook). There's just too much conflict/awkwardness that comes into play when someone involved in the same project as me finds out I'm getting pushed forward and they're not (such as my current situation with the company). | ||
