As we enter the month of August, owners of the Verizon Galaxy Nexus are still wondering when their devices will see the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update.

Prior to Google’s announcement of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, many wondered whether the Verizon Galaxy Nexus would be one of the first devices to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. After all, it was the first Galaxy Nexus on an American carrier, it had the latest hardware and it was a device that tarnished the Nexus name.

We thought Google and Verizon might try and make it up to customers, especially those who dealt with the device’s issues at launch.

Google then gave owners hope by stating that the update would be rolling out to an initial batch of devices, a list that Google said included “all Galaxy Nexus” devices.

Those dreams have been dashed though as thus far, we haven’t heard anything from anyone in regards to either the Sprint or Verizon Galaxy Nexus Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update.

And thus far, we’ve seen the update roll out to the other devices included in the initial batch of developer devices:

Nexus S Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Update – Started rolling out on July 20th
Motorola Xoom Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Update – Started rolling out on July 27th
Samsung Galaxy Nexus HSPA+ Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Update – Started rolling out on July 10th

For whatever reason, the phone that launched with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on board, the non-unlocked version Samsung Galaxy Nexus, is last to the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean party with no invitation in sight.

We[..]ume that August is going to be the month that American carriers (the Nexus S 4G on Sprint doesn’t yet have Android 4.1 Jelly Bean) get it together and get the update out but nothing is confirmed.

This doesn’t just apply to the Verizon Galaxy Nexus either. This applies to all Galaxy Nexus devices on carriers around the world as none of them have received the update as of yet.

So, so much for one of the best perks of buying the latest Nexus smartphone. And so much for Google and a major U.S. carrier smoothing things over with disgruntled owners.

As always, we’ll let you know when we hear something.

What is confirmed is that devices older than the Galaxy Nexus and arguably less important have received their updates before the Galaxy Nexus.

not even trying to be funny but you should read up a little to get a basic understanding of what rooting is, what it allows you to do and some of the other technical terms, etc.

after that hit up the xda forums and download the nexus toolkit like homie said. it literally does all the work for you

android users bash iphone users for "having to jailbreak their phone to get the most out of it" yet all the android users on here are rooted [pic]

Yall missed the whole point of the article. They are talking bout an official update...The whole point of having a Nexus is to have an update as soon as Google releases it...

Non rooted phones are capable of 98% of the things a rooted phone is capable of doing

most people root to change kernels, ROMS, and of course access the root directory

honestly there is not too much u cant do on a non rooted phone, the biggest thing i do is change kernels and flash roms for quicker updates and modified OS. So instead of waiting on the Official update most of the time the rom is basically stock just get to change what u have on it.

for those new flashers Bugless Beast (Jelly Bean Version) AMAZING ! [pic]

It's not Google, it's Verizon delaying the update.
