AT&T Begrudgingly Unlocks iPhones

It’s finally happened: AT&T has admitted that they don’t have exclusive access to the iPhone anymore.

Seriously, looking at their behavior over the last few years, you’d think Verizon and Sprint hadn’t gotten access to it. All the issues iPhone users were complaining about persisted. AT&T was hoping to fix those problems with T-Mobile, but we all know how that turned out.

So, as of today, AT&T will unlock your phone, provided you meet the following requirements:

Of course, it’s been 100% legal to just jailbreak your iPhone for two years now, so AT&T is just a little late to this party. Although at least when they unlock your phone, you keep your warranty.

Yeah, they only do it for customers that have been with them for 2 years, good standing and it's a process to do it.....my thoughts are if I buy an iphone, do my 2 year contract then I should be able to unlock my !! if possible, ATT about 5 years too late with this

ATT owns tmobile now so it makes sense.

That deal fell thru, AT&T doesn't own T Mobile

"Unlock it" it as in jailbreak it? If so, does Sprint do this?

I've had my Sprint iphone unlocked ever since the day I bought it. In fact, it was never locked. [pic]

Been using it overseas now for the last 4 months+.

entirely 2 different things.

unlock- only to be capable of using other carriers.

jailbreak- to have more control over the phone in terms of customization, hacking, unlocking, etc.

att will not jailbreak your phone. only unlock it.
