They chose a garbage one, I'm sure plenty of good ones were out there. Most big companies do end up with a POS logo anyway because they stick to the ones with degrees instead of the ones with actual experience and creativity.

the ones they have now are timeless. like the canon or microsoft logo, imagine looking at that logo 50 years from now, you wouldnt be able to place a time period on it.

You can't say that. They probably thought the same thing back then when the old logos were created. There's no telling what's going to look modern 50 years from now.

They're just way simpler, but you can't foresee the direction logos might go.
Maybe they'll stay this way, but you never now, there might be some designing turn somewhen

but it isnt about modernizing the logo. its about making it timeless. sure logos may change 50 years from now but those logos could work back then, now, and forever.

saul bass made some timeless logos. besides the clarity and some 3d effects they mostly remain unchanged

The old apple logo is an example of a bad design- it's too busy. This makes it difficult for consumers to process at a glance, and also makes it difficult to reproduce in print, etc.
