Instagram for Android shown off at SXSW, founder says it’s better than the iPhone app

		A lot of people have been waiting for Instagram to land on Android. Although we still don’t have a date when the highly-anticipated photo-sharing app will be available for Android, we do have some good news on the progress of the app for Android. Today [March 12th] at the SXSW festival in Texas, Instagram founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger told Techcrunch’s Alexia Tsotsis that the app for Android was coming real soon, something we’ve known for a while. On top of sharing that info, Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom pulled out a Samsung Galaxy Nexus running a prototype version of the app and flashed it to the crowd. According to the Systrom, the Android version of Instagram is “in some ways better than our iPhone app”. The app is currently in private beta and the Instagram team hopes to “have it out really soon”. At an Q&A session, Systrom said that the Instagram app for Android was incredibly fast, has sharing functionality with Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook, and other social networks, and that it works great on a range of larger screens. Systrom also revealed that the number of registered users grew from 11 million in December 2011 to over 27 million. Systrom says that the increase in users is thanks to Apple’s iPhone 4S and the fact that Apple highlighted the app as App of the Year. So, there you have it. That is the latest on Instagram for Android. Just in hang in there, guys; it’s coming, and it’s going to be great. As someone who doesnt have an iphone, im dying to know what instagram is and why its so special, can anyone tell me? Im not trying to sound sarcastic, i really want to know what it does that say the regular camera app doesnt?

!!in losin sleep over niccaz using a camera FOH

instagram and other digital photo filter apps are here for the long haul actually... i doubt its a fad.
you'll understand when you look at these photos 20 years from now and it gives you a whole other feel about the time. its like looking at pictures in the 70's... instagram just allows nolstagia with the digital revolution.

As an iPhone user I have to say that the influx of Android users on the Instagram app will blow the hell up! The creators of Daily Bible should make an app for the iPhone users. There is nothing really special about Instagram but it does have a certain mystique knowing that only iPhone users have access to the app only. I firmly believe there should be some apps that are OS specific.

lol naw son.. that !! aint fair that you get instagram and we don't. all of the photo apps on droid suck bruh. we've been waiting on that !!... but yeah it doesn't help that i live in a world where people are constantly posting instagram photos that i can't take. but i dont want it because iphone users have and i dont... i want it because its a slick app.

look at what Evidence has done with it... he's made it a tool for art.
