Apple will unveil its new iPhone (possibly called the iPhone 5 based on the invite!) at a big press event in San Francisco on Sept. 12.

RUMOR ROUNDUP

Release date: September 21 (Likely)
According to iMore, Apple will start selling the iPhone 5 on Sept. 21, nine days after the announcement. It's also possible Apple will start taking pre-orders on September 12.

Apple may add a chip so you can make payments with your iPhone (Nope)
For the last three years, there has been speculation that the iPhone will add a Near Field Communication (NFC) chip that will let you make mobile payments with your iPhone a la Google Wallet.
That rumor was shot down again this year.

It will connect to super fast 4G LTE networks (Almost definitely)
We've heard over and over again that Apple's next iPhone will connect to LTE networks on AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint. LTE is the technology that lets you get download speeds nearly as fast as your cable or DSL modem at home.

It will be thinner than the iPhone 4S (Likely)
Based on all the recent leaks we've seen, it appears the iPhone 5 will be significantly thinner than the iPhone 4/4S. It's tough to tell for sure, but it looks like the entire device will be about as thin as the metal band around the iPhone 4S.

It'll have a larger 4-inch screen (Likely)
There have been a recent string of reports claiming Apple is planning to make the next iPhone with a 4-inch screen. First, The Wall Street Journal reported Apple ordered larger screens for the device. Then 9to5Mac said Apple was testing an iPhone that has a taller, 4-inch screen.
The taller screen will be big enough to add another row of app icons to your home screen. It'll also help the iPhone keep up with those big-screen Android phones people love.

That larger screen will be made by Sharp (Definitely)
Sharp confirmed that it has a contract with Apple to make displays for the iPhone 5. It'll start shipping displays to Apple in August. Other manufacturers like LG will make displays for the iPhone 5 too

Will T-Mobile finally get the iPhone? (Nope)
T-Mobile can't have the iPhone right now because its network isn't compatible with the device. While you can use an unlocked iPhone on T-Mobile, you won't be able to get 3G data speeds.
But T-Mobile is taking matters into its own hands, altering its network so unlocked iPhones can access 3G speeds. That's good news if you want to buy the next iPhone unlocked at full price and run it on T-Mobile.
However, since the next iPhone is supposed to be compatible with advanced LTE networks, you'll still be out of luck if you want to remain a T-Mobile customer. T-Mobile's network won't have LTE until 2013, which means it'll likely miss the next iPhone launch this fall. If T-Mobile has any hope of getting the next iPhone, it probably won't happen until next year at the very earliest.

It will have the same processor as the new iPad (Maybe)
Apple's trend for iOS devices seems to be to introduce the fastest hardware and processor in the iPad, then adopt it in the iPhone later in the year. We saw it with the iPad 2/iPhone 4S, and we'll likely see it again with the next iPhone.
Reports say Apple is already testing the new iPhone's guts. It has the same A5X processor found in the new iPad. It's also said to have 1 GB of RAM. Those specs mean you'll get some incredible performance out of the next iPhone.
However, a recent leak shows the iPhone 5 may have a brand new quad-core processor called the A6.

A better way to find apps (Likely)
Apple recently acquired Chomp, a company that made it easy to find new apps for your iPhone or iPad.
Now it looks like Apple will finally implement Chomp's technology in the newly redesigned App Store. The latest developer build of iOS 6 has a new function that makes it easier to find apps you'll like.

iTunes will be completely redesigned (Likely)
In addition to an App Store refresh, Bloomberg reports Apple is working on a major redesign for iTunes. The refresh will make it easier to sync your music, movies, and TV shows with iTunes with the help of iCloud.
The new iTunes will also make it easier to share songs with friends, similar to the way you share stuff on Spotify.
It's also possible Apple is working with Twitter to integrate the social network with iTunes.

The dock connector will be smaller (Likely)
Since the iPhone is expected to have a thinner design, Apple may shrink the size of its standard 30-pin dock connector in the new phone too.
Multiple reports have backed this up, so we're guessing it's true. A smaller dock connector will mean you'll need an adapter to use the new iPhone with older iPhone accessories.
We imagine Apple will eventually add the smaller dock connector to all iOS devices.

A new, more responsive touchscreen (Probably)
If the next iPhone is going to be thinner, Apple will have to alter its touchscreen technology to fit. According to Jeffries analyst Peter Misek, Apple will use a new screen in the next iPhone that is much more responsive.
WSJ also reported that the new iPhone's screen will have the touch panel built into the LCD, which will help keep the device thinner. Unfortunately, that'll also make the new iPhone tougher to repair if you crack your screen.

Will there be a super cheap iPhone Nano? (Doubtful)
It's the rumor that just won't die.
Every year we hear that Apple is working on a smaller, cheaper version of the iPhone. And every year the rumor is completely wrong.
However, it's much more likely that Apple will stick with tradition and offer the iPhone 4 and 4S at a discount after the next iPhone launches.
It's also possible the 3GS will stick around in some countries as a pay-as-you-go phone

It'll use a smaller "nano" SIM card (Probably)
Evidence keeps growing that Apple will use a new type of SIM card called a Nano SIM. As the name implies, Nano SIMs are smaller than regular SIM cards, meaning Apple will be able to keep the iPhone thin and light.
Recently, some carriers have already started receiving Nano SIM cards for the iPhone 5.

Seriously, if youre a grown man, having those Galaxy S3 big[..] screen is really too big. I can see if youre a broad cause most likely you could just throw it in a purse or even a youngin since they was a lot of media on their phones BUT if youre a grown man, why do you need something that bulges out your pocket

Im not even a iPhone owner but I can see a 4in screen a lot more convenient than one of those 5in+ looking tablet phone

He might have made a bit of an overstatment, but I see where he is comming from. For some people, they just don't see having a screen that big is practical for them.

Damn son, either your a small[..] nicca, you wear skinny jeans, or you got girly[..] hands (probably all 3).

Am not even that big but my hands are, every time i use 3.5 inch phones my thumbs cramp up. Hell a Iphone can barely fit in the palm of my hand. Dont know how must men can use a Iphone, 4.5 and up for me.

Plus you can get a case and have your phone on the side. [pic]

The S3 has a perfect size screen for me and my big hands....whenever I hold an iPhone I feel like my hand just engulfs it. And it'll never bulge out my pocket...that's why I have a holster
