even a casual customer is gonna ask if they can upgrade the device. it's mainly families buying computers, and kids always want the high end model but parents go for a lower end model because up till now the computer could be upgraded

I don't like this, but I doubt it really affects them negatively. See this post from Felix Salmon: . It references of Apple's stock price. In short, Mac isn't even a big part of their value anymore, at least according to Trefis.

As the goat steve jobs said, if people buy the product and are satisfied, thats all that matters to them. They will continue the technology as if it wasn't the problem.

If they DONT like the product, apple will rid of it. Just like the 17 inch macbook pro.... it was clunky as hell and only abouy 1 percent of MAC sales. So they eliminated it.

They looked nice at the Northpark mall in Dallas but to be honest the seemed like a 1 extra G Macbook Air with a nicer screen and an HDMI port? [pic] I don't know what my next notebook should be especially since my last Macbook pre Unibody broke down alot.

I think they offer it with 16GB but you can't open it up and pop new sticks of ram in there. I saw it at Best Buy a couple days ago and the screen looked really good.

Comparing a Dell to a Mac is like comparing a Chevy Lumina to a Lexus LFA. Yes, they both have engines, 4 wheels, and interior seats but that's where the similarities stop. Macs are built better, run better, are more responsive and gives the user superior ways to interact with the computer via the trackpad and gesture based OS. You can say what you want but you've probably never owned a Mac which is why you would even bring up your cheap Dell. Yes, having the ram, storage, and battery soldered to the logic board sucks if you wanted to upgrade it on your own but it sure as hell doesn't if you weren't. BTW all you guys that are complaining were never in the market to buy a Mac anyways. Y'all just using this to justify your irrational hate for Apple.

^ Way to try and justify the highway robbery that is Macbook Pro. You're right, I don't own one, but who's to say we're not all potential buyers some day? Especially if Apple's stronghold on the market continues. I've fixed plenty of Apple products (which is what this thread is about, BTW) and I have to admit this is disheartening news for the fix it commununity. I wish the dumbasses who feed Apple their hard earned money every year knew about stuff like this. Have fun paying for replacement and protection plans at a overpriced premium.

Also, keep in mind that this not only affects those who want to aftermarket upgrade, but simply replace defective parts as well.

you can get 8gb or 16gb when you order it. the ram is soldered into the board. you wont be able to go from 8gb to 16gb once you have it in hand. and !! 16gb. where the !! is the 32gb config.

i was in the market for the new mbp. but after i read it was not upgradable i said !! that. i was literally thinking ill get the cheapest one for 2000 w/ student discount and upgrade the ssd and the ram as soon as it gets a little cheaper. since thats not possible id need to get a 3700 dollar mbp to be satisfied with it. ive used macs, i know how it works. whenever people speak about macs running better it makes absolutely no sense. benchmarks showed that a hackintosh runs faster than the same specced mac. the whole optimized for mac argument is some brainwash !!.

letting apple dictate your upgrade cycle = retarded. no matter how much money you have

Show some proof to substantiate your claim that hackintosh PCs are more efficient than equally spec'd Macs. I would really like to see that, thanks!

Who cares about hackintosh.... too many limitations on osx, rather stick with win7
The only good reason to buy a apple product is the design /build quality of the hardware.
