Apple officially gives Google Maps the boot and selects TomTom for iOS 6 Maps!

Been wondering exactly which data service is replacing Google as Apple's map provider? According to these leaked screenshots (shown above) from the iOS 6 developer beta running on an iPhone 4S, it appears to be TomTom. The company is no stranger to iOS, as its navigation app and car kit have been available on the iPhone since 2009. On an interesting note, the maps application specifically mentions "data from TomTom, others," which means there may be other suppliers that aren't getting called out by name. We'll keep you posted as we hear more what's going on behind-the-scenes.

Update: TomTom has independently confirmed to us that it indeed "has signed a global agreement with Apple for maps and related information."

Navigation is the only reason I haven't jumped over to the iPhone. iPhone 5 better have a decent navigation system or I'll be forced to get an android phone again.

there is gps apps and even a good free one called Waze. IOS 6 now has turn by turn navigation built in

OMG iOS has turn by turn maps!!! They must have innovated this as an all new feature for iOS6 and no one else has this because apple innovates everything...

what the !! have you innovated besides an angry disposition from being rejected by both men and women on craigslist? Its people like you that take all the fun out of life..i'm sorry you still are stuck on an iphone 3gs since you cant upgrade at at&t using an ebt card.

What have you done with your life that makes you such a unique snowflake?

Apple doesn't care about anyone's life or anyone's opinions unless it makes them money while doing the smallest amount of actual work.

I hope before someone lights you on fire you crash into an aids tree and suffer the same fate as your alcoholic "touchy feely" father.

Tom Tom didn't make the app, they are one of several partners supplying data for the app. There's a difference.
