Apple to Google: F%$# You

 Apple to Google: F%$# You
By Pro337 - 06-13-2012, 07:22 AM - Boxden > BX Tech

As both tech giants fight tooth and nail for mindshare, Cupertino is now adamant to go thermonuclear on everything Google, not just Maps.

The iPhone maker demonstrated its incredible agility and willingness to fight Google on multiple dimensions yesterday. To that extent, iOS 6 could be viewed as the biggest step yet in the de-Googlification of iOS.

Here’s why…

The keynote kicked off with a Siri gimmick. She made fun of Google’s Android code-names, saying they must have been created by “Ben and Jerry”. By the way, she also likened Samsung’s new phone to a refrigerator.

And in another shot at Google, iOS boss Scott Forstall brought up a slide highlighting Android’s fragmentation problem.

The executive rubbed Android’s fragmentation issue to Google’s face:

More than 80 percent of our customers are running the latest version of iOS, iOS 5. Now if you compare that to the competition, they released a dairy product, 4.0, about the same time that we released iOS 5. And about 7 percent of Android customers are running the latest version.
Put in another way, by the time the iPhone 5 surfaces this fall, four generations of iPhones will be running the most up-to-date software.

Android chief Andy Rubin tweeted two days ago that Google is now seeing an astounding 900,000 daily activations, but from the ecosystem point of view Android seems to be spiraling out of Google’s control.

Google’s I/O event runs June 27-29 so it’ll be interesting hearing how it spins the fact that iOS is consistently developers’ platform of choice.

And of course, with Maps sporting Siri integration, Apple is looking to nuke Google Maps out of orbit in a big way.

And a really crucial differentiator: Apple’s new Passbook app that seeks to organize all your coupons, credit card information, boarding passes, shopping deals and more in one place.

It ain’t a digital wallet per se, but certainly paves the way for the iPhone becoming your e-wallet in the not-so-distant future.

It’s got some nice touches, too.

For example, being time and location-enabled, all your passes and tickets appear on the lock screen when and where you need them.
> Apple to Google: F%$# You - Photo posted in BX Tech | Sign in and leave a comment below!

Passbook takes a radically different approach to Google’s iWallet service that requires a smartphone with an NFC chip, a special point of sale terminal and only works on the Sprint network in the United States and in partner stores. In fact, Sprint announced plans to pursue its own digital wallet service, leaving Google Wallet kinda lingering out there.

And of course, Apple’s flawed and unreliable digital[..]istant Siri rendered Android’s Voice Actions outdated (Google is working on a similar AI-driven feature). New deals Apple cut with Yelp and others mean you can now find a restaurant and make a reservation through the Siri interface, bypassing Google search altogether.

I love this Apple vs Android battle. Its like people bash apple and complain about how they so expensive and behind on features lacking on specs. I like how Android is coming out with new features and all that but I much prefer how Apple perfects that feature and actually gets it right. I just got the new Evo LTE and love it, I was kinda excited and having google wallet, a lot of places in my area accept it but I have yet to be able to sign into it. The !! just doesnt work period. VS the passbook that Apple is offering seems to be exactly what I would want and because its apple id beat my[..] that its gonna work properly out the gate. Thats just a simple[..] example but this seems to be the whole flow of this battle, android introduces it and apple prefects it. Id gladly pay a lil extra for a OS that works together seemlessly and is extremely easy to use. And im a lover of both system. I got the Evo LTE (prob gonna swap for the SG3 next week) and new Ipad so no hate on either side.

Got devices from both companies; both Google and Apple have their pros and cons as companies. Apple always releases refined devices (less all the Siri gimmick, 'cause that thing is broken), while Google churns out ambitious, yet less refined, products. I trust that Google will one day get it right, though. They're trying to unify all the Android devices into one OS, and while it doesn't seem like a realistic goal right now, they'll get to it one day.

Apple's cool, man. I have a lot of their products, including this MBP 15", my iPad (and iPad 2), my numerous iPods and iPod touches and new iMac. Their ecosystem is solid as well. The only gripe I have with Apple is that their iOS is so... "limited". I feel trapped using iOS. I can't imagine using it for a phone right now. I'm alright with it being the OS for a tablet and music player because I just use 'em to browse and such. I need to mould my phone for my day to day use, though. The iPhone right now with iOS doesn't do that (personally and IMHO, of course).

We'll see where this leads. Hope iOS becomes more flexible in the future - they need to overhaul that thing. Mac OS X, now that's how every OS should be. What they did with their laptops' OS is how they should approach the iOS as well. Not make it OS X, but make it as usable, as intuitive and as smart. The attention to detail on Lion (and soon Mountain Lion, I would also[..]ume) is crazy.

After using my MBP for a week back in 2010, I literally said to myself "I'll never use a Windows laptop ever again". That's how good the iOS should be.

Right now, Android's ICS > iOS 5. That's just how it is to me.

I like Apple and they do create great products. My problem is people acting like other products are just flat out not worth considering, and acting like having an Apple logo on it makes it the better choice for everyone. Not everyone needs a $2200 dollar computer. Someone in this thread said they'll buy the next gen MBP even though all they do is use Boxden. Why??? And that's not even the problem: why bash someone who'll only use a few websites and word processing apps for buying a cheap Windows computer? Everyone has their own taste. My mom uses a Samsung Chromebook that I got from Google I/O because she doesn't need sheer power for checking her bank account and looking up financial, fitness and health stories. So she should be called cheap or be bashed because she doesn't prefer/want/need an Apple product? That's the only issue I have a problem with. Funny thing is that it's not even Apple who is the root of the problem, it's their extremely delusional fanboys.

^^Truth, it comes down to what you use your machine for. I got a MB pro, 15inch, 8 gigs ram, 3ghz processor, loaded to !!ing [rip], retail was about 3k, I got it for the FREE lol, my job bought it for me. No way on earth would I buy a 3k computer, not way on earth unless I was a graphic artist, into film, music or some !! like that. All i do on this macbook, is browse the web heavily, download a gang of !!, light converting, root and jailbreak a few phones and from time to time dibble and dabble with some video/music editing apps. I could do all that same !! with a $800 Dell lol. Its all about what you need. I think iOS is a better OS for a tablet but Android is a better OS for a phone. Problem is that iOS is created for 1 device "for the most part" while Android was created and used on damn near 100 different devices. All different screen sizes, specs and flavors, Thats a harder task than people think it is. Its hard to optimize a 1 OS for a phone that has a 4.8 inch screen and has 2gb ram vs a 3 inch inch with damn near 2mbs of ram lol.

that applies to Android users as well dude. theres ppl on both sides who ride or die for a company who can give 2 !!s about their life. i have a friend who boasts about his Android phone saying it can do this and do that, and it has this and that, yet, all he does is call, text, and maybe watch Netflix on it as its the only app he ever bought. dude JUST LEARNED how to take a screenshot of his phone and JUST LEARNED how to put music on his phone.

i got another friend who always talks about how iPhones dont have flash and his Android does and how magnificent it is but when he shows me a website on his phone he says "oh, i have flash disabled". [pic] same dude who says my iPhone sucks cause it doesnt have flash has it disabled on his phone lol

it all depends on personal taste at the end of the day and its ppl on both sides of the spectrum guilty of hyping up their phones capabilities when they dont use the features they boast of. !!, ive had an iPhone since the 3G and im willing to cop the S III to try it out once i get my upgrade

its like that scene in American Pie where dude only had secks with one girl and Stiffler tells him "youre like a blind man picking out his favorite [..]o" lol [pic]

Why do so many Apps crash on iOS5? Why does iTunes match STILL not work the way it's supposed to? Biggest waste of $25 I ever spent. Google Music>>>>>>>

Truth. I've had Android, iOS and Windows phones, and it all comes down to personal preference and what you need them for. I currently switched from the 4s to the Lumia 900 because the Zune software !!s all over iTunes and I have very little need for anything outside of a google music app, an email for work and a camera to take random pics of my kid. I know it's not the best phone on the market, but it gets what I need done, and I love the build. The size of the 4s was just aggravating me and the UI had just become boring. If there was a App I miss I still got my iPad anyway.

Once Apple quits with the bull!! and allows you to customize your phone like android does, the game's over. The limitations are the only drawback I see. They make superior computers, notebooks, and tablets. As soon as they sell a phone that comes "jailbroken" out of the box (not limitations on your device like they have now) Android won't be nearly as popular. My jailbroken iPad is ridiculously dope. And so is my friend's 4S. If it came out of the box like that, [pic]

i'm actually liking the discussion and back-and-forth in this thread so far. so different than the usual "!! apple" and "!! android" nonsense.

They would never do that, ever! Apple cares about the majority, not the minority. Techies will always be the minority, because most iPhone sales are from consumers that don't care about customization and modding. Plus they would never give you the tools to further[..] their eco system(aka installous).

Android will always be ahead in my mind. They create great products, while supporting the modding community.

With the gs3 a lot of people will have ICS
There's no reason why Samsung won't continue to do this every year.
Every manufacturer should follow
