The 20 most (and least) socially networked cities in America

When we first decided to crown one town America's Most Socially Networked City, our money was on Palo Alto. As home to the headquarters of Facebook, Palo Alto might as well be called Zuckerburgh. But the title instead goes to Washington D.C., a city where staying connected can get out the vote, and virtual handshakes help shape our nation.

We started by calculating the number of Facebook and LinkedIn users per capita, followed by overall Twitter usage (NetProspex). Then we looked at traffic generated by the major social networks, including Myspace, Friendster, Reddit, and Digg (analyzed by ad network Chitika). Finally, after factoring in the percentage of households that check out chat rooms and blogs (SimplyMap), we had the results you see below. Go ahead, tell a friend.

detroit is the least? really, it seems like ppl in my friends list live on FB and Twitter

I have about 10 friends in Detroit, only two are on Facebook, 1 actively uses it, no one's on Twitter. Seems fairly accurate

My Girlfriend lives in Detroit and she doesn't have a Facebook page,so maybe I can see why their so low on the list

#5 seattle could be higher everyone and their mother uses facebook and twitter, I cant even meet someone and give them my name because as soon as I get home I got a add from them

sacramento higher than los angeles?? I'm shocked. You would think with all them celebrities LA would be top 3 or 5.

As for New Orleans, I would say a D grade is inaccurate to me. I see hoes all the time on facebook and twitter.
