Pretty cool. Shouldve been boosted from the factory though

How so? A stock BRZ only runs a high 14, low 15 sec quarter mile. 11.3 is a great improvement. Especially at that mph.

I'm curious if that was just a bolt on turbo kit or if they modded the engine internals. If that's a bolt on it shouldn't be more than 6k for the kit and you would have a vette k!ller

Yeah its a turbo kit on stock internals. Which means its only a matter of time that engine pops

Toyota owns Scion and Subaru. Subaru provided the engine

Its a Subaru. The Subaru BRZ and the Scion FRS are essentially the same car. It was a joint effort by Toyota and Subaru.

Not even close. As long as it has the right components and tuning the engine will be perfectly fine.

It was a joint endeavor. Subaru did provide the engine, but Toyota does not own Subaru.

I would say you are right as long as its low boost...but they would need to drop the compression and reinforce the internals if they want the engine to hold up under much over 5psi

Also Toyota is partial owners of Fuji Industries (which is who owns Subaru)...had to look up the actual percent, they are 16.5% owners......so Toyota does partially own Subaru

From what I've heard the compression ratio is pretty damn high. Like 12.5:1 or something like that. Which is ridiculous on a turbocharged (gas powered) car. But the good thing about it is that you'll make more power at a much lower boost level than if you were at say, 9.5:1. And yeah I knew about the Fuji Industries thing but not about the 16.5%. But I wouldn't say thats enough to say they "own" Subaru.

According to the comments the car is running 20psi, it has their turbo kit, bigger injectors, E85, Tune, and a prototype clutch. Running stock internals.

Not necessarily. Bad batch of gas and there goes the engine. I don't know how many posts I've read over at Camaro5.com talking about if you go boosted you better have a back up. !! can go wrong even with the greatest tuner. The good thing they have going is the E85 since I believe it'll run cooler.

Running 20psi on an engine with that high of compression? there is no way that would hold up long term....but yea the e85 would have to help....but still, damn

The E85 and some decent head gaskets could drop the compression down significantly. They could also adjust the timing to help. I know when i had my civic my compression was at least 11.4:1 since i had an ls/vtec with a shaved head and a jackson supercharger on it running 8 lbs boost. I had to use an MSD BTM to retard my timing when i was running on 103 octane

Oh !!... I didn't realize Toyota had picked up subaru... That makes sense though because i just started noticing how dope the new legacy's and WRX's are looking.......

e85 won't reduce the compression ratio at all. it just burns much cooler than gas.
now a thicker head gasket would obviously reduce the compression

with your civic i'd say the key was good timing adjustments, since the right air/fuel ratio is critical in aftermarket supercharging or turbo.....interesting choice to go super instead of turbo on a civic tho [pic]

Toyota has nothing to do with the styling of the legacy or wrx. Toyota has owned the 16% share of Fuji since 2008....Subaru is still entirely run independently in terms of car development (besides this joint venture of one specific model)
